more lab stuff

So when I saw my PCP on Monday, she was concerned that I was taking 50,000u D3 everyother day and retested that and my Cholesteral since the surgeon took me off Lipator when I had surgery.  My D3 right before surgery was 22.  Monday it was 117.  She wants me to stop taking D until it is down around 50 then to do 2,000 a day.  Does that sound right?  I won't see the surgeon until Jan and he won't do labs until March.  I have another appt with PCP and the surgeon in March also.  I just feel like part of the reason I feel so much better is the Vit D getting up.  Where should it be, for us?  50 sounds low.
My cholesteral was also higher than desired but it wasn't fasting so that may be it.  She didn't ask me to go back on Lipator.  But you know, we eat a lot of protein, animal based and I don't have the fiber, EVOO, and all the positve stuff I used to do.  Anyone else with cholesteral problems?

100 is the optimal level for D3. It used to be 50 several years ago. Things have changed as they've learned more about D3. You're fine where you are and with what you're taking. 2,000 is only barely ok for normal folk who don't malabsorb D. If you want to test it, you might forgo 1 50,000 capsule a week and see where it comes in next time. If it drops, stays the same or rises--you'll know more how to address it.

I don't know what to tell you about the cholesterol. My hubby is a normy and his cholesterol meds kicked in and started working better when he started high protein low carb and got away from low fat and higher carb.

Thanks, Gina.  I just couldn't believe I needed to go off all D until it was down.  Maybe I'll go to 2000 u a day and see what happens.

I've been on statons for years and I truely believe a lot of mine is genetic also.  My dad died at 49 from heart attack and of course, then, we had no idea about cholesteral.  Total was 212, LDL was 142 so it was high but maybe that was due to it not being fasting.  We'll see in March if it goes down.

I wouldn't drop it that much. Please don't. 116 is not too high. Do one less 50,000IU a week, that's all. She doesn't even know what dry D3 is, please don't stop.

nodding

117 isn't all that high if the range is 35-150. If your range is 32-100, it looks high. 2k per day is NOTHING.

If you were doing every other day, try 3 per week. That oughta tuck it in around 90. Below 70 is not very beneficial according to newer studies.

Price,
I had high cholesterol before surgery.  I tried to come off my lovastatin after about 6 months and had to go back on it.  My PCP told me I probably needed to continue taking it until I was through loosing weight.

I just had to come back off it because my liver enzymes went crazy with my last blood work.  She is going to check liver enzymes next week.  I started Milk Thistle like Gina recommended and hope it helps them to come down.

My cholesterol will be rechecked in February and I'm hoping it will stay normal or I'll have to start taking Crestor instead of lovastatin..

Good luck. Hope you can stay off of it.

I would re-do your cholesterol. The value isn't valid, if you weren't fasting for 12 hours. Water is okay.
