Scale 4 oz, or volume 4 oz?

Okay, I'm confused.  I'm supposed to eat between 3 and 4 oz each meal.  I understand if it's a hamburger patty then I need to weigh it, but do I use my 4 oz measuring cup for other things or am I supposed to weight everything and not eat anything heavier than 4 oz?

And why does everything taste soapy to me today?

I've heard it both ways but if it's meat I would go with volume. Good luck being able to eat 4oz though. I can only sometimes eat 3oz which they told me is about the size of a deck of cards.

Soapy? Maybe you're in ketosis. Everything tasted like aluminum to me when I was in ketosis. lol

This is a good question.... my rule of thumb was dense proteins were by weight.  But other foods were by measurement... example?  1/2c of chili, veggies, etc....

I'm sure someone else will chime in!

Thanks for the info.  I am able to eat 4 oz of soup, chili, cottage cheese.  Actually had part of a patty melt last night and broccolli, and ate very little before I was full.  I'm just starting soft food phase.

I always weigh meat. I usually can't eat as much as I planned. Soft foods I measure with measuring cups because that's how they are labeled (like 1/2 C cottage cheese, etc.). I weigh cheese because it is 1oz per serving.

I measure meat/cheese by the weight scale, the rest by measuring cup.  Good luck with this phase of your diet...

So I must be the only one who doesn't weight their food.........LOL  I go by fullness.  I eat my protien first then vegis.....then whatever else I have until I feel satisfied.  I used to use a saucer plate and make sure half of what I have chosen to eat is protien.  I still do the same thing except now I eat off of a salad plate.   I never grab more than an eyeballed cup of food.......  I just can't get into the whole measuring my food thing.  Heck I'm too lazy to wash that many dishes......LOL

I like your idea.  You have been so successful getting the weight off.  I'm still so new, but not too bad guestimating.

I bought ramekins in different sizes...2,4,6 ounce...I put my food directly into them as use them as my dish. They also come in handy for microwaving and storing leftovers. I just feel like I'm eating more when I eat out of a bowl vs. a plate. It makes me feeling mentally satisfied :)
