Egg nog, cookies and pies, Oh My!.....

I'm sure you have already touched on this ad nauseam, but here goes...

I'm having a terrible time being around all these yummy Christmas foods!  It's all so tempting. It just doesn't seem like Christmas without a nice glass of eggnog while decorating the tree.  Or my special pecan rolls on Sunday or all the yummy cookies, chocolates and pies that are everywhere! And I cannot skip baking and I won't keep things out of the house just because I'm having trouble... my kids deserve a normal Christmas.  But for the first time since surgery, I'm feeling really deprived. How are you coping?!!!

I am doing the best I can to resist temptation, I have also made sure that all that I cook contains splends and not real suger, kids cant tell any difference. I dump on eggnog so I no longer like it.
I have chewed so MUCH sf gum, it has helped a little but I know exactly what you are talking about,

The sugarless gum is beginning to take its toll too! It seems to be making my tummy hurt and my teeth ache.  Gosh, give me a break, God!  I'm tryin' hard to find coping strategies here!  lol

Have you tried the SF FF eggnog receipe that has been floating around the boards?  I guess it is easier for me for 2 reasons, first, no little children, second, holiday traditions that weren't sweet.  Like, we always had fish chowder for Christmas eve, eggs goldenrod for Christmas breakfast.  I am not a baker or cookie maker, so although I would make something for desert, there wasn't fudge, cookies, etc around.  So far, I've been ok with a taste of something and that's it.  But sweets never were my problem, quantity was.  I always ate basically healthy, just way too much.

Sweets and carbs were my kill.... I could eat a whole loaf of fresh french bread with butter in a day. I have NO will power when it comes to breads... I do now thats for sure, it is like hell on my stomach now.

You are lucky, Stacey! I seem to have NO trouble with bread.  I really wish I did.  I will have to rely on will power which never worked before.  I often wonder if this is as good a tool as advertised.    But I need to stay positive and not give up I guess.

well, this may not be a popular answer, but its the truth for me. i eat some sweets. i dont deprive myself. its the holidays after all. i dont run around eating cake for breakfast, but if i'm at a party, i have some dessert. i don't believe in "good" and "bad" foods. i don't think food has a moral aspect to it and i don't think that my food choices make me a good or bad person. that said, i don't overdo it, i always eat protein first and I weigh and go to the gym and keep myself in check. its a challenging time for all of us but we should learn to enjoy it too.

Well, Christina, you certainly seem to be succeeding with that philosophy.  Just look at you!  I will keep this post and use it for inspiration when I need it. It is a balancing act.  We just need to remember the key word to life in general:  Moderation!
Thanks and happy holidays :)
