Not doing great with protein
Hey Stacey -- sounds like you are doing pretty good and are very aware of your intake. That's a great thing!
Try to throw in 1/2 c cottage cheese and a string cheese each day. That will bump you up a bit.
For a protein drink, here's a suggestion if you drink coffee. I buy the big bag of Costco protein powder (cheapest way to get it). It's actually muscle milk. I mix 1 scoop with about 1/8 c of water (kind of thick), then pour brewed coffee on top of that. I really do not taste any after taste. It doesn't exactly taste like a mocha, but it's good, chocolaty, and helps me to get in 26 additional grams of protein a day. You really should try to get in a protein drink somehow. Your taste for them may have changed in the last couple of months. Just because it tastes bad right after surgery, doesn't mean it will taste bad now. Our bodies are weird!! :)

Stacey, can you do milk? Or soymilk or something? When I am low, I do a glass of milk with swiss miss diet hot chocolate, only 25 calories and 2g of portein for the mix + your milk. I make my oatmeal with milk and milk powder to up the protein. A cheese stick with deli meat around it is about 15g.
I do think it is important to find a protein you can tolerate. I'm pretty lucky, after the beginning, I have been able to do most any of them.

When I was early out I would mix powdered milk into things. I especially would add it to cottage cheese. It did change it to a more milky flavor but didn't change it so drastically that I couldn't stand it. It works best if you buy a large container of cottage cheese put into a larger airtight container and mix the powdered milk in tasting as you add until you think you are at the edge of tolerating it and wanting to throw it out........then let it sit over night allowing the powdered milk to dissolve. Then stir it up again before you take a serving.....I would add diced peaches to it with a little of the juice to add a pit of flavor and it was good!
I JUST tried the new ISOPURE SMOOTHIE......and OMG it is soooo yummy! I tried the orange peach it is lactose free 210 Cals and 32 gr Protien....I honestly can say it has NO protien aftertaste! I think I've found my new protien drink!!!

Stacey just wanted to let you know your post inspired me to do better with my protein. I have been a fanatic all along but ever since Thanksgiving I have been off track with my protein. I need to start back with my shakes and logging my intake. Just wanted to say thanks. I am virtually at my goal and have been eating well other than the protein, just not being accountable.

I love the baked chicken strips I made in the oven with a little baking magic. Especially with a little bbq sauce and it helps me get in some dense protein.
I also like white chicken chili. The chicken and beans fill me up and keep me full.
Sounds like you are on the right track and will be getting your levels up again! Keep up the good work.
