Not doing great with protein

I am starting new again.
Although I am not eating junk food, my logs are not showing enough protein in my diet.
I am going to head back to my greek yogurt, cottage cheese, cheese sticks and refried beans everyday to try to get back on track.

I feel it all started when I left for our trip, I know I did my best to eat the right way but found alot of carbs going in and not as much protein.
I can make this happen!!!

My weight is still going down, so I am still doing something right and still only averaging 600 calories a day.

Everyone out there in BLIZZARD land, please stay warm and be careful.

I'm feeling exactly the same way!  I added another protein drink to my day.  I've also been looking around for other sources of protein.

I really need something convenient.  We are empty nesters and I really don't cook much.  I've found some low sugar/low sodium meatballs at my local grocery store that are helping right now.  I can microwave them in a minute and have a meal.

Getting all the protein is tougher than it sounds.

Kay,
It really is harder than I thought it was going to be. I still have not found a protein drink that I can handle ( or enough stuff to cover the nasty taste and smell).
I am doing some protein bars and can eat, I think half, at a time. For me it is a work in progress.
I am gonna add more tuna and see if that helps also.

Good Luck to you on getting in all of yours.

Stacey

How much protein are we supposed to be getting after surgery?

Sounds like you have a good plan on getting back on track.

My personal goal is to get in at least 70 g a day, I am only averaging, 50 g.
Every one will tell you something different but because I am still eating the smaller portions ( our pouches expand as you go on a little) I am still having a hard time getting it all in.

As I get further out, I will push for at least 100 a day.

Remember too that you are malabsorbing protein from your food - so the 70g you are getting may, in actuality, be 35g or so your body is actually able to use.

I know you've had a problem finding a protein to drink - but you really need to try.  If you continue to try and get your protein all from food... you may find yourself eating more calories than you should.. just to get the protein amounts up.

I like the Nectar chocolate truffle - mixes very smoothly and is yummy.  Try putting it in Swiss Miss diet hot chocolate... vanilla works great in it too.  I also put a splash of SF peppermint paddy syrup in it... very yummy.  I also like the 4Ever Whey Isolate from Vitamin World.

You may want to try some of the SF syrups in protein drinks - they definitely change up the tastes and can mask some of the "proteiny" flavors.  I'm far enough out now where they don't bother me, and I guess I was lucky that after surgery I could tolerate chocolate in milk... and liked it!!  I also would treat mysef to a skinny starbucks SF vanilla and put another scoop of vanilla in it..

Keep trying hun... did you go on my blog and look at the list of protein drinks there?  try some..

Remember too that your tastes are constantly changing and you may want to try some again that didn't work well for you earlier. I found about 6 months out or so my tastes were pretty much back to normal....

Eggs are another great protein source. I had trouble with scrambled but I could do soft boiled, poached, deviled and egg salad pretty early out.
