Yes, I did have horrible tailbone pain on a daily basis that was not resolved with narcotics, cortisone injections, or any fancy pillow on the market. Never did try the internal manipulation because the problem was very similar to yours - chronic, repetitive trauma. Every time I sat down my tailbone would dislocate so I didn't think manipulation would have any long term relief.
Anyway... the ****ygectomy was a pretty straightforward procedure done by an orthopedic spine surgeon with recovery on my belly for about a week. After the first week I gradually started sitting and then went back to work after 2 or 3 weeks. My pain is 98% cured. I still have periods of pain if I sit for too long but nothing that isn't tolerable. As much as I hated having to go under the knife again, it was WELL worth it and I would highly recommend it. As long as that is the problem and it's not a nerve or lumbar disc issue - it should fix your problem.
If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me!
Take care,

sounds like very similar situations. Aside from the THOUGHT of internal manipulation, if the problem is repetetive trauma, massaging those inside muscles won't help anything.
I'm a teacher, so my work is all on my feet. I'm also a workaholic, and have a hard time being absent at all. So I'm wondering how soon I can return to work. some of the anecdotes I've read on the 'net state the commute is the problem ..... hard to go back to work when you can't handle driving to get there. Is that what you found? We live only a five minute drive from work, and hubby works at the same school as me, so he does all the driving. I could, literally, kneel in the back seat for the drive to school and/or I could make the 20 minute walk to work if necessary.
I just don't want to miss school, or not much school. I get stressed over the thought of being out of work. I could have returned to work after RNY in one week if I didn't have an allergic reaction to teh anaesthetic. I heal fast normally.
When one of the four cortisone shots I've had worked (the only one to work)... I was at about a 15% level of pain compared to when it was bad. If I could go back to that place.... with my pain at that level.... i'd do it! I hope I can see relief.
Speaking of lumbar discs.... I did herniate one 14 years ago, but the orthopedic specialist said that while it's still visible on the MRI, it looks good and like it isn't the cause of the problem. Since the epidural eliminated ALL pain for a little while, during those failed cortisone injections, docs say it is not likely referred pain.
We'll see what the spine specialist says this week.
Oh, one other thing.... did you have to modify your diet before or after the surgery? It would seem to me that you would want your bowel movements to be as soft as possible to avoid any issues with straining.
