Stress Test
I am still pre-op but my PCP has ordered a stress test that I have to have done this coming Thursday. Kind of nervous. My BP is not good, I have been on BP meds but not having any luck with them so far. I have been having too many side effects or they have been ineffective bringing my blood pressure down. I currently stopped my meds and will be seeing my PCP next week to hopefully get on some new ones that I wont have any problems with. I believe one of my pre-op tests has something to do with cardiology is this part of that testing?
Kim,
You are correct in that the stress test you are having is a Stress Echocardiogram. It is basically where they administer medications and monitor your heart while they put you on a treadmill and make you run until you can't run anymore.......I personally think the stress of getting APPROVAL should be stress test enough........LOL

Don't be nervous. The test will just let your surgeon know you are a good surgical candidate as far as your heart is concerned. The stress test will let the Dr's know if you have any blockages or previous damage to your heart which could affect surgery. The test itself is easy, I had one done about 6 weeks ago because I was having chest pain which ended up being GERD. They inject you with some medication, take some pictures then have you walk on a treadmill until you get to your target heart rate then they take more pictures. There is no pain involved, but they do have to start an IV. You will do fine!
