So last night we went to a concert...Roger Waters doing the WALL...OMG it was like heaven...
or a wonderful dream...anyhow I had a small cup of wine at the show...when I say small I mean
6 ounces...I was hammered....what's up with that? I think it's because it's always on an empty stomach...anyhow it goes right to your head...no stop anywhere else...it was great for the concert...but if I was at a dinner party I may have been the one with the lampshade on my head...
it was a great night...i got a tee shirt and it fit....it was great to rock out without the  extra 65 pounds weighing me down...life is good...watch that holiday drinking guys...I have a sleeve so no dumping but major hangover..SEAVIEW

Hmmm - not sure about VSG'ers, but with RNY'ers we no longer have gastric juices in our pouches, which neutralizes the alcohol, so it dumps directly into our blood stream and we can get drunk pretty quick - but then can come out pretty quick too.  BUT - that doesn't mean we still don't have alcohol in our blood.

If we were pulled over even after 1 drink we would be over the legal limit for drinking/driving... that's how much it affects us.

Good thing you were able to try it out before a big party.  We always recommend people try a drink at home first to see how it affects you.

I can now drink several drinks and am ok.  But - the first one I can feel, and when it subsides a bit, the next few are ok.  Yes, I still have the alcohol in my bloodstream so I still won't drive, even if I think I'm "ok"...

They addressed this issue at my surgeon's office. They of course discourage drinking all together, but they know that we will all do it at some point. But they explained the quick drunk feeling. Alcohol causes the drunk feeling by touching the surface area of your stomach. That's why it usually takes people quite a few drinks to get drunk when they have a normal sized stomach. When we drink a small amount, it touches more surface area of our stomachs at one time.

Haven't tried and haven't been tempted yet.  I am still at the point of not wanting to drink my calories and have been able to party fine without anything.  But it is nice to know the chemistry of it.  And I really don't want a hangover.  I was already a pretty cheap drunk, now I may have to be carried home.

Good to know. I was a lightweight when it came to drinking preop! Now I guess I will be a ultra lightweight when it comes to drinking.

Here is where I need an anonymous persona to post.

DH was drinking some very fruity mojitos (mango, I think) that a friend made. A bit later, we got romantic.

Yes, you CAN get a second-hand drunk from good mojitos combined with good kissing.
