Just wanted to be a helpful veteran  lmbo! hahahah ;o)

Everyone check the lable on their multivitamin.  Make sure your multivitamin doesnt contain Iron and Calcium together.

It's suggested that Iron and Calcium to be taken at least 2hrs apart.

It's suggested to use a multivitamin made for post-op WLS.

Also make sure your taking Calcium Citrate NOT Calcium Carbonate!

Companies who specialize in vitamins for post WLS who I've used

Bariatric Advantage
http://www.bariatricadvantage.com/catalog

Celebrate
http://www.celebratevitamins.com/

I haven't personaly used products form this company but I thought I would add it below

Vitalady

I've ordered quite a few of my "speciality" vitamins through vitalady - I also get SF syrups and my calcium citrate chews from there.

Speciality vits are:

Vit A, vit K (2 types), Dry D3, B12, Folic Acid, Proferrin iron, tender iron, and I'm sure there are more.  I also have ordered the Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins in Watermelon (yum) from there.  They also have a slew of others.

I've also used www.expressmetabolics.com - the lady who owns this used to come to the LW board a lot.  I've orderd calcium citrate chews from her too and she also carries the BA line.

Good reminder!

Thanks for adding to the list Jody! I think the more informed we are about our vitamins the healthier we can all be.  It's a daily importance in our post-op life.

I myself take Dry D3 as well as my other mandatory post-op vitamins

Thanks for the reminder Ash.  Do you know I am still flailing around with my vitamins, not really getting them right yet?  Shameful.  Sometimes I wonder if I have an aversion to taking care of myself.  My Doc says I need to care for myself like I care for my own children, but I can't quite follow through. Oh well.

Maybe I'll put out a post for people's vitamin regimens.

Good topic. ;)

Actually, it's okay if your vitamins have calcium and iron as long as the amount of calcium is low. I believe the threshold is somewhere around 300 mg.

Also, it's okay if you are taking a separate iron supplement and considering any iron in your multi that gets absorbed to be extra credit.

Most commercial (and even some bariatric) vitamins have both iron and calcium in them so it would be very inconvenient to not be able to take them when they are great sources of everything except calcium.

I love vita lady. She is very helpful. I do get my dry vit D3 from her and my iron from her.  The only thing I don't like is her shipping is very high. I get as much as I can from vtiacost.com . Their shipping is 4.99 for no matter how much you order and often they have free shipping. They sell just about everything you can think of.

Thanks Ash....I need to ask about vitamins. Does Bariatric Advantage or VitaLady set up a plan where they can ship your products every month or so without you having to reorder everytime?

BEFORE, I lived for FOOD...NOW, I live for LIFE!

i know vitacost will do auto ship and you get a 10% discount for doing it. You should check them out.
They sell everything you can think of at very good prices. I get my bsn lean dessert protein shake powder there, and my oh yeah protein bars, all sorts of vitamins, biotin shampoo -the list is endless.
