Flinstones Multi Vit. Complete

I am still pre-op but I had a question about vitamins.  My WLS Center says they want you to take 2 chewable Flinstone Multi Vit. a day.  They want us to start these right away.  I am just wondering if taking a kids vit. is really going to give you the nutrients that an adults body would require.  Just wanted to know your thoughts on this.  They also said we could take the Womans 1 a day and I was being really good about taking them but found they made me nauseous.  If I am nauseous now taking them I can't imagine how they will be after the surgery.

My Nut said Centrum chewable.  Not the silver because it doesn't have iron.  I switched to a store brand that is basically the same thing.  I do one am and one pm.  Optifast also makes a chewable that you do 4x a day and it includes the calcuim.  But the 4 only give you 100% of everything, not 200% which we are suppose to get.

From my understanding, Centrum chewables don't have selenium, so you might want to check and see, if what you're taking contains selenium.

You're smart. Let me know if you want a link to Vitalady's vitamin plan and schedule. What surgery are you having?

Medical folks get no training in over the counter vitamins and what it takes for someone with "short gut" to stay at optimal levels.

Here's a few plans to take a look at to get you started. As you get your labs done and you get a copy for yourself, you can tweak them according to what you need. I was very low in A and D pre and immediately post op. My doc put me on extra stuff over and above his own plan...nothing he tried worked. I finally got him to agree to let me try Vitalady's plan and we are both celebrating over my labs. I've been on her DS plan for 2 1/2 years.

No - Flintstones will NOT give you the vitamins you need.

I take either Centrum Silver or Bariatric Advantage chewables.  I have a problem choking down full size vits and pills too make me nauseaus... even prior to surgery.

The Centrum Silver doesn't have iron, but that's ok - because I need to take my iron separately from my multi for absorption purposes.

You're very smart asking this question now!

Jody, I just found a vitamin that's small and doesn't make me hurl the way every other pill did.

The brand is Rainbow Light.  They're called 50+ mini tablets.  I take 3 a day and so far I can keep them down.  These are the first pills that would stay down.   They don't have iron but I take the bariatric advantage truffle chews.    The vitamins have a big dose of probiotics as well as other great stuff.

I take the chewable Bariatric Advantage.  I'm not a vitamin expert, but have read lots of post that say Flintstone Chewables do not give you everything that you need in a multi-vitamin.

I'm shocked that your WLS center suggest a kids vitamin.  There is a reason those viatmins are for kids and not adults.  NO! No! way should you take or rely on flintstone vitamins post-op.

Got to Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate for vitamins
