Ulcer, how long for the meds work?

I was having neck pain and went on some supps telling everyone that I could handle an ulcer better than the stiff neck.  Dr's office recommended not to take supps but I did  not want to take the narcs.  So now I have a stomach ulcer, diagnosis over the phone, he wants to scope but is willing to try the meds first.  I am on Prevacid daily, Carafate 4 times daily and Misoprostol three times a day.
I would like to retrack my words and take back the neck issue because this really hurts, I cannot eat nor drink without pain.  I have had 1/2 greek yogurt today and a shot of milk because my meds require it.  I am going to try to get a protein shake in.  


SO HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR THE MEDS TO WORK IF THEY ARE GOING TO WORK????

Sorry you're having this... I can't give you an answer, but I take Prevacid daily to prevent ulcers.  When this is all done and taken care of, you may want to ask your Dr to put you on a script for life... especially now you know you're susceptible to them..

You want to take care of the ulcer. If they don't heal, they can perforate and cause internal bleeding, which can be life threatening.

I hope you feel better soon.  I don't know anything about an ulcer.  I had some pain around my belly button after I had eaten lots of food over several days with tomato products in them.  I took Carafate and got it under control.  Did the same thing about a month later and now I have an appointment with my surgeon tomorrow to check it out.

I would want him to do the scope so he can look at it and see if it is really bad or just starting.

I know exactly how you feel.  I had an ulcer about 5 weeks out.  Couldnt eat or drink anything without pain.  I ended up in the hospital for 2 days with dehydration.  I have to be on the Carafate for 6 months and Omeprozole for life probably.  It took about a week, week and a half maybe for me to be able to eat or drink anything without all the pain.  I still struggle with getting in all my fluids, dont know if that is related to the ulcer or not.  Hang in there, it does get better.  PM me if you want to chat..     Joan

My DD had ulcers so I can understand how much pain you are going through.  She was miserable.  I think me medications start working pretty fast.    Like Jody, I take my Prilosec every single day.  When I don't take it I seem to be hungry all of the time and I have to really watch what I eat.  I don't get bad acid reflux anymore but my tummy feels better when I take it.
