10 Weeks out and my hair is falling out
I’m 10 weeks out from surgery today, down 55 lbs, and I’m already started to lose hair. Most of the posts I read say hair loss starts around month 3 and continues for 3-6 months after it starts. I’m not freaking out yet but also not sure what to expect so I would love to hear about your experience with it….
Thanks
Christine
I'm seeing a few loose hairs my self. I have been doing bioten and started doing some zinc recently. My hair is thin enough already. Not something I am looking forward to for sure.

the anasthesia and the rapid weight loss both contribute to hair loss....it will stop ....my surgeon says there are NO bald weight loss patients..it's true..I noticed that after surgery none of my hair grew...leg hair took forever...eyebrows...and my color did not grow out....then I lost a ton of hair and it all started growing again....I was shaving once or twice a week again...etc....so you should take the supplements which will help with regrowth but you can't stop the falling out....just realize that it is part of the sacrifice we make for the reward of getting thin ...nothing comes for free...trust that it will come back and try not to think about it too much... i just put my long hair up all the time and only brushed it out when I washed it and then it all came out at once and freaked me out ...and then I would dry it and put it up again...good luck ...SEAVIEW
My experience was unusual. I started losing hair at 1.5 weeks out! I kept losing hair forever... until about 17 or 18 months. I still sometimes lose a bit more than I like if I'm not careful about my protein intake.
The thing is, most of hair loss results because your body freaks out by the surgery. There is nothing you can do about this. Your hair died 3 months ago (give or take) when you had surgery and no amount of supplements or special hair products can fix it retro-actively.
But you can also have hair loss due to malnutrition. That was what was happening to me. I was getting in over 100 g of protein a day, but I found that wasn't enough. I need to get at least 125-135 g a day or my hair starts to fall out. So, if your hair doesn't start coming back around 6-12 months out, look into your labs for deficiencies and correct them.
Oh and don't panic. I lost hair starting much sooner and lasting much longer than average and I have thin hair and very little of it to start with and yet I never went bald or even got so bad that anyone who didn't know I had wls and was looking for it would notice.
Plus it looks great now -- it even has some body when it never did before!

I feel for you!! Mine didn't really start coming out with a vengence until around month 5. I'm at 9.5 months now and it's still falling out. I think I'm also seeing loss from the thyroid meds I just started taking.
That said, i'd rather be smaller with less hair, than fatter with a full head of hair.
Good luck to all of us! :)

for me iron n zinc stopped the loss ..... silicone makes it ( and my nails ) grow .... ( i already take biotin and hair vitamins ) ..
and Minoxidil was a gREAT temporary fix .... really attaches the stuff .
Now of course it falls out when U stop using it .... I used it only like once every two days and it stopped most of the fallout .
My hair growth at that time ( 4 months post surgery to a year post surgery) is also more fragile in terms of color andthe sun .... etc .. so brittle, shine-less and tends to breakage
BUT the GOOD news is its growing back almost as thick as pre surgery so I EXPECT to have a nice head of hair once again .... in a year or two , thank God .
