stomach flu!
Well I'm scheduled for surgery this Wednesday and my daughter came down with the stomach flu yesterday, vomiting, fever, etc. She feels better today so seems like it was just a 24 hour thing, thank goodness. Now...... I'm praying I dont get it or if I do that it's within the next day since my surgery is Wednesday. I dont want to postpone but I am really afraid of getting the surgery on Wednesday, not knowing that i've gotten the flu and then throwing up the next day or two! Any nurses out there, thoughts on this?
Well, if you don't come down with flu symptoms before Wednesday, I would go ahead with the surgery. After surgery, nausea is quite common, especially if you are using pain meds. The physician can give you some anti-nausea medication, since it is really important to be able to get your fluids in, so you don't become dehydrated.
No nurse, but Oh man, what rotten luck. Let's hope you are happy and healty on Wed. I'm swinging for you.

So sorry you are having to worry about this!
Keep handwashing and I agree with loverofcats. Go for it as long as you have no symptoms. Ask anesthesia doc for anti-nausea med and he will hook you up with something that will take care of the first 24 hours :)

thanks everyone! Lee - I'm doing OK so far. No signs of flu. I've been taking the probiotics that someone suggested and also Zicam since my son has a cold. Just a house full of sickies right now -ha-ha. Been spraying the Lysol and reminding everyone to wash their hands. Lot of praying going on too! 2 days to go - Wow it came up fast!
