Losing question
First off I just found the lightweights area.....not sure if I "qualify" as one, but thought this would be a good place to ask my question....I had posted on the main board a while ago.......
so first a few facts-
Highest weight- 285 (May 2010)
Height 5'7" tall
Weight 9/2010 when I met with surgeon 257
Current weight 241
surgery is 12/7/2010
Ok.....so here is my question(s)....really just looking for you opinions......
One side of me says ok- you have lost 40 pounds since May- why not keep going.....THEN reality sets in and I know I have done that in the past and guess what I gain back more then I lost!! Imagine that!! LOL
anyway- so most everything I have read says plan on losing around 100 pounds....then leveling off....that would put me in the 140 range- holy crap- I weighed that is Middle School (I think) anyway- thats way less then I wanna be.....I would be THRILLED to be in the 160's-170 max.....
any thoughts? should I be worried about losing too much??????? I know that sounds strange but it is something that has been nagging me.........
thanks in advance.......

From what I understand it is pretty standard to lose 100 lbs. A big factor will be what WLS you are having. If you want to lose less just start maintenance at the point you're ready to stop. Keep in mind many people suggest you lose 10 lbs more than you want for the regain you can expect with maintenance. HTH
Welcome to the lightweights!
Well, it all depends on how much you have to lose.
Most people lose 60% of the total weight they need to lose. With that said, everyone is different, we have seen people lose all of their excess weight and others struggle to get to goal. I think for most people we have a set point, at this point it will be difficult to lose more weight without great effort.
Please share you concerns with your doctor. I am sure he/she will be able to give you some advice.

One hundred lbs is a pretty arbitrary number considering we all start at different points. I was around 200 when I had surgery and certainly don't expect to loose 100 lbs.
Most of us have lost 50+ lbs over and over and gained it back and more. This gives us a chance at permanent weight loss if we work the surgery and do what we are suppose to. The classes, presurgery and post surgery diets head us in the right direction.
Not there yet, but seems like most folks level off where their body is comfortable. That is what I am counting on.

Hi Owossoguy - welcome to the LW board! Is that, by chance, Owosso, Michigan?
Anyway, we've all done the diet yoyoing for longer than we can even remember - so that's why we're here and have had, or looking into WLS.
What surgery are you looking to have?
On the BMI charts where would 140 put you? You're body won't lose more than it needs to. Yes, there are a few people you hear about losing too much, but you really don't know what their cir****tance is...
So no - I don't think you need to worry about losing too much.

Don't worry babe....you won't waste away...I am 5' 8" and today I made 144 ...yahoo...
I am skinny....I have lost the back fat...you know the stuff around your hips in the back...that we all get used to but never used to have...oh yeah....it's the best....gaining weight will never be a problem for me...losing was always the issue....the surgery will allow you to go all the way for the first time ever.
It is actually a bit scary to think about losing it all because we hold onto it for all kinds of reasons...but we are older and wiser now ...you can weight what you weighed in high school if you want ...you get back what you put into this process....and your body will stop losing when it's ready...best of luck...dive in baby...SEAVIEW

Welcome to the LW board............I'm going to assume you are a man from your user name.....Please correct me if I'm wrong.......that said I can understand why you wouldn't want to get below 160, however, I think we are all finding that our bodies will get us to where we need to be. I am a woman and am 5'6.5" and am happy where I am at. I was happy at 155.....I would have been happy at 170 and honestly didn't expect to get lower than that. I started maintenance early because I couldn't imagine being smaller than I was at 150. If I loose more I'm fine with that but I'm also content with where I'm at now. I think it is all about how you feel. As long as YOU are happy with the results that's all that matters. Don't get caught up on the numbers.......Judge your success by how you feel! Congrats on your surgery in 2 DAYS!
