Sorta new!
Hi!
My name is Debbie. I am mostly new here. I read a lot and have posted once.
I've been in the Surgical Weightloss Program since July. Last week I got a call that I was approved by my insurance and am scheduled for January 3rd!!!! YAY!!
I am married with two son's, Tyler is 4 and Owen is 11 months and two step-son's Wyatt 15 and Carter 14. My husband Kirk had RNY in May of 2008. He has done fantastic and I am so proud of him. I think going through his process with him, made my decision to move forward a little easier.
We were asked to be in a video for our weightloss program. That was fun, but really opened my eyes to how big I actually am. I don't think I ever realized it until I watched the video. I don't really look at myself in the mirror, I don't even own a mirror except for the small one in to bathroom. So when I saw myself it was really hard.
Here is the video if anyone is interested (my husbands story is in the beginning.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjekIJluhE4
I look forward to getting to know all of you.
P.S. Is there somewhere with a list, where I can learn the lingo around here? I am lost with some of the stuff.
Thanks!

It's so nice to have you, Debbie!
I, too, avoided mirrors back then. (Meaning, like, until 6 mos ago!) Now I can't stop looking!
No, seriously. I look in the mirror all of the time. Not so much because I'm happy with what I see, but because I stand in disbelief of what I'm seeing. It takes a while to catch up emotionally!
I'm so glad that you have your hubby's (or, as boards would say, DH's = Dear Husband's) support through this. That should mean so much to you and to him.
So. I recommend going off and getting a big 'ole mirror and sticking it somewhere you HAVE to look at it. I got mine for like $50 at TJ Maxx. It's enormous and right there in my entranceway so that I am forced to look. I'm glad I did this before WLS because I needed to know what I looked like before so that I could celebrate the new look all the more.
OR, another approach people take is to take lots of before photos - pics that really show the real you. Even in your unmentionables! You don't have to show anyone but yourself. But it's helpful to see those for the times when the scale won't budge and you're feeling discouraged... (we all get those!)
Good luck with all of your pre-op preparations!
I'd bet that lots of folks are "swinging lizards" for you! (That's LW code for praying, though you won't see me using that phrase personally, not because I don't like it, but because I'm a pastor and just hope folks will indulge my churchy language.) ;)

Welcome Debbie! I look forward to getting to know you!
I really understand about the mirrors. I happen to have two full walls of my bedroom in mirrors but still didn't know what I looked like.
Tonight I was at an OH holiday party. There was a photo slideshow running on the big screen TV of photos from our monthly luncheons. When I saw the pic of me 3 weeks pre-op last January, I just couldn't believe it!
