plateau #1?

Right after surgery I was so excited to see how effortlessly the weight dropped off.  I was on liquids for about 6 weeks because of an obstruction followed by nausea and abdominal pain.   On a liquid diet it was easy!  Now that I am eating solid foods and feeling better I am so hungry!  The last 3 weeks have been aweful!  My potassium is really low, so I can't do vigerous exercise with out getting DOMS really bad, and I am exhausted from my iron anemia!  I plateaued at 190-195 during those 3 weeks.  Is it possible that because I was a LW RNY patient that this is all the surgery will do for me untill I can exercise more, or is this just my first plateau?

First plateau!  I almost want to say you are lucky this is your first! (I experienced my first 2 weeks after surgery and it lasted like 2 weeks!!!!  Very frustrating as I was so early out and said (this will never work for me) BUT I am on the lose pattern again, so I do have faith you will be too!

I didn't want to say "Lucky" because it does sound like it has been a tough road a bit for you, so I am very sorry for that.  Hang in there, when you go on food, you are adjusting and working on that and also your innards are filling back up again as on liquids there isn't much in your intestines, so totally normal and not real "weight" per se.

I totally think it will pass and you will start to feel better.  I do however do one to two protein drinks a day still even though I am on solids as it does take quite a bit of solids to make our protein goals and so I figured I might as well drink some protein and get some fluid in at the same time.

Totally sending the losing vibes your way!!!

More than likely a small plateau, I hit mine about 2 mo out and it lasted 3 weeks. During those weeks I did notice my jeans feeling a bit more loose and my shirts were bigger, I came to the realization that I was losing inches just not pounds. I came off of it while on vaca visiting family and was down 5 additional pounds! It was a great feeling, just keep doing the right things and it too shal pass. Good Luck.

Just your first plateau.
Your body just needs some time to catch up. Just keep following your program and it will come off. I hope you are a prescription supplement for your potassium and taking a good iron supplement to combat your anemia. It must be difficult to feel so tired all the time.

Experiencing my second plateau and trying to stay positive.

We can do this!

They didn't give me anything for the potassium, they didn't even tell me it was a problem!!  I found out by google!  I was in the hospital for abdominal pain on Nov.1 and over the course of 24 hours they gave me 4 doses of IV potassium, but didn't say it was a big deal.  As far as the anemia, even small doses of iron constipate me and I end up taking sennacot-s as per dr.s orders, so it doesn't do any good anyway!  I'm just afraid I have stopped losing because I have lost 55 pounds so far and am already considered a successful surgery because I have reached that 50% mark.  When do LW stop losing and risk regaining?  When did you hit your first plateau?  How long did it last?

I take Proferrin (sp) iron from Vitalady - its gentle on your system and doesn't stop me up like other irons do.  She also has a Tender Iron that is gentle too, but from the sounds of it, you may need the Proefferin to get your system back where it needs to be.  Its expensive - but works.

Of course you need to take your Pepsid, or what ever you take for your stomach.  I was surprised to hear that you are so hungry at only 2 months out.  What I found is when I stop taking my Prevacid, I get stomach irritation that I was mistaking for hunger... and I'd eat.. then be hungry again in an hour or so and eat again... realized it, took the Prevacid and now that's not happening anymore.  See if that is what may be causing your hunger feelings.

You're not done losing by any means - just taking a break.  It will continue - trust me!

Sorry you started out with an obstruction.  I'm guessing that your body is just taking a rest from the weight loss you have had so far.  I had the RNY and  I didn't exercise at all.   Make sure you are getting enough Protein in.  I truly believe that High Protein and Low Carb is the answer to long term weight loss with the RNY.

Did you take your measurements?  Most of us have found that we lose inches during the stalls.

I wouldn't think you'd be having hunger feelings at a couple of months out.  Do you take anything like Prilosec?  That helps with those feelings sometimes.

Posting on Menus and Miles might help.

I have such a sweet tooth!  My dad gave me milk chocolate for Christmas, boy was I sick!!  I have found out I can do dark chocolate in moderation, though I wish I didn't know that!  I did not take my measurements, but I know I am losing inches.  I was taking Actigal, but they took me off it when I was hospitalized for stomach pains.  Now that I feel better they are thinking that may be what was causing it.  I am prescribed pepcid, though I have not been taking it...oops!  Prilosec, is that to reduce stomach acid?

Take your Pepcid girly girl. It is to prevent ulcers - now you don't want a nasty old ulcer on top of everything else, do you? Our center makes you agree to take it for 6 months!

I'm confident that it's just your first plateau!  Has nothing to do with you being a LW or not.  Water, protein, vitamins, exercise! Key factors for daily life post-op.  This too shall pass.  Start taking your measurments.  Even when the scale isn't moving the inches are.  You'll be shocked to see it on paper.
