VSG vs RNY
At first all I heard about when I started looking into WLS was the band and RNY. The band was out, didn't want a foreign contraption in my body. RNY's re-routing and malabsorption was a worry, then I found MM's blog and heard about seizure disorder after RNY and that scared the holy crap out of me! I wished there was a middle ground - restriction of band without the device involved, no malabsorption, etc. Finally I went to a surgeon's seminar where he talked about a third option, the VSG, and that was it! Ended up going to Mexico for it, which was a really great decision, and I'm very happy with my results so far. My weight loss has been slow, but I blame that on my age and metabolism, not the surgery, and I'm always going in the right direction, so it's all good.
Seizure Disorder? Really? do tell - I haven't heard about that. I have developed Reactive Hypoglycemia though...

I have RH as well. It's not fun at all. It was so bad when I was pregnant I had to eat every 2hrs to keep my blood sugar levels under control. I had to test 4 times a day.
It's a trade off. I'm not obese but my blood sugars suck now.......In the 30 and 40's some days and I lay on the couch sick when it's that low

I think that the main thing is that you are comfortable with your decision and that you trust the advice and wisdom that your surgeon offers you.
I knew that I did not want the RNY because of the malabsorption. And I definitely did not want foreign equipment (band) put into me. My Kaiser wasn't really offering the Sleeve to the general population when I first met my surgeon last December. I was prepared to fight with the following:
History of chemo type drugs in 2001.
Mother with celiac sprue disease which is hereditary and malabsorptive. I'm already showing signs of it.
When I met with my surgeon, he told me that he would only perform the VSG on me. I kept my list of reasons in my pocket and left happy.
We're all different. I'm 60 years old with a damaged metabolism. I hoped to lose quicker than I have, but I'm also happy with my progress. Maybe I would have dropped more pounds more quickly with RNY? I'll never know the answer to that.
In the end, we get a WLS tool. Then it's up to us what we do with it.
Good Luck!! You're going to do just fine. :)
