OT.....DD hits another milestone!

Halle hit another milestone today. I had to go back to work this morning to drop something off. I stayed about 20 minutes and visited with a coworker. Halle decided she was ready to leave.....so as normal she grabbed my hand and started pulling me......I said not yet and kept talking.....she kept pulling.....finally I said ok we'll go bye bye......I proceeded to say goodbye and my coworker said bye to Halle and waved......all the time she is pulling on me as hard as she can......then........she waved her other hand in a bye bye motion! She has never done this.....now mind you she wasn't saying goodbye to my coworker.......she was TELLING ME......IT'S TIME TO GO BYE BYE.....LOL.......I have to say I'm getting to be very excited......she is starting to use her "words" as much as she can......she has been signing "more" all the time and now this........I may just make her beg to leave from now on until she says lets go bye bye......I am sooooooo happy right now! This holiday season is bringing me and my baby girl alot of new communication tools!

LOVE these posts!!!!!! SO AMAZING! She will totally keep blossoming more and more as now that these types of victories are coming, they are like a snowball and just keep coming!

My son isn't autistic but does have a language handicap. I thought at one point we were going to have to teach him every word he ever said. In fact, once he started talking, he learned new words rather quickly (for him). One thing the therapist did was have us sign to him the word he wanted to say. It ends up being another cue that he picked up rapidly. We taught all the kids and adults to sign that were non-verbal in our group homes. For those who didn't have the desterity, we used picture cards and taught them to use them. Having a way to communicate other than having a tantrum is a wonderful thing.

She has been using pecs ay school and is now finally willing to use it at home..........i'm in the process of making cards now.
