Pre-surgery scale victory
Congratulations on taking control of the situation. The program that I am in, required a 10% weight loss prior to surgery, which in my case was about 20 lbs. I followed the 1200 cal/day diet plan, although, early on, I was eating about 1,000cal/day. I started walking. Two other main things are to weigh and measure your food and to track your daily intake. After about a month of cutting the bad foods out of my diet, I started weighing and measuring my food. I lost 3 lbs that week. The following week, I added logging my food on Sparkspeople and lost another 3 lbs. My average weekly weight loss was about 1-2 lbs/week. During the 3.5 months that I did this, I lost 33 lbs on my own, which made me a better surgical risk and decreased the amount of weight that I had to lose post--op. In addition, it gave me an opportunity to start developing a change in lifestyle that WLS requires for success.
Sounds like, you are off to a great start!!! Congratulations the first 10 lbs!!!!

Congrats Kim! It's a great idea to try to get your head prepared. Me, I've been too busy having all kinds of food funerals to make any progress. I'm going to try to follow your example. You've inspired me to quit the food pity party and get on the bandwagon! Thanks!!

Kim, you are doing beautifully! A model patient! My surgeon would love having you as a patient. Studies show that patients who get accustomed to these habits prior to surgery are so much more successful after WLS than those who don't.
Good for you! By the way, even though the holidays are a busy time of year, should we try to get the MN LW's together for a holiday coffee somewhere?
