Same ol, same ol....
So I'm sitting at work obsessing over the forum posts today, bored to tears and it's making me want to snack even though I believe I'm not hungry. I know that everything I'm about to say has been said over and over again on the boards but I'm feeling like I need some support.
I'm 2 mths out and 45lbs down - my severe diabetes is gone, sleep apnea gone, GERD gone, and I'm grateful for all of that but I feel like a worn out, mess. I can't get enough protein each day, can barely stomach drinking water or crystal light anymore, so I'm far from getting enough liquids and protein each day. I feel nauseaus most of the day, in a tired slump, now I'm starting to nod off at my desk the past 2 days. I'm sooooo bored with any food. I have no desire for anything particular. Food is no longer tasty or exciting. Now I just eat because I have to. And I've been on a few week stall stuck at 230 for the last 3 weeks. I just want to pull my hair out.
And on top of all that, I've had bronchitis for almost 2 weeks. Ugghhhh.
Sorry, just needed to vent somewhere and I know this is a "safe" site for me to do that.
Thanks for reading.

Hang in there! So sorry to hear you have bronchitis! That's just terrible.
I think alot of us have been exactly where you are at today.
I know for me, it just took time. Eventually my taste buds seemed to settle down and things started to taste a little better. As for the liquids, I still dont tolerate cold as well as I do warm. I can get decaf tea or chicken broth down alot faster and easier than cold water or crystal light. Please try to up your fluid, dehydration can make the nausea worse.
For the protein, just keep trying. I used alot of the sugar free instant breakfast at first with valio lactose free milk, 11g protein per cup. I couldnt handle the protein powders at first. I also made jello with protein powder, I could only do strawberry. I cant remember how many cans of refried beans I ate, mixed with some plain protein powder, a little taco sauce and a sprinkle of cheese heated in the microwave was a favorite of mine.
I remember feeling like I no longer lived to eat, but I am eating to live. I still set my timer to remind me to eat and when to drink and not to drink when I am home.
I had surgery over 4 months ago, and it does get easier. Be patient with yourself and the process and you will get there.
Glad you came and posted, because we need all the support we can get. WLS is tough.
Big hugs!

Congrats on your wt. loss, and getting over your co-morbids, you are doing very well, even though you are in a stall right now!!!
Sorry you are feeling this way. I understand how you feel. I had a really hard time finding a protein drink I could tolerate untill I did I was nauseated half the time. When I did find one things got a lot better. (I am drinking Chia Tea from Bariatics Eating) (But I don't want any Crystal Light to this day). Food still holds little interest to me, but I definetly get hungry. Sometimes I think something sounds ok or even good, then when I eat it I don't much care for it. I realize my relationship to food has changed, and I'm still adjusting. I miss enjoying my food so much, but it is o.k., I am adjusting.
I would suggest you keep looking and trying different protein drinks until you find one you tolerate well. Also to realize things are just different now. Also some of your taste WILL return, and it will get better.
Good luck, and keep posting.

Down 45 pounds - that is great!! Congratulations and it is great that you have gotten rid of so many co-morbidities.
Can you drink milk?? Lots of people can't after surgery. I love it and would mix in Non-Fat Dry milk and Diet Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate for a drink that gave me lots of protein in the beginning. I use the Hood Calorie Count Down Milk now and it has a lot less carbs.
Do you like coffee? If so have you tried a Decaf Protein Coffee drink? Or maybe some warm tea. Sometimes something warm is easier to get down than something cold.
Hope you feel better soon.

So sorry you are having problems! It will get easier. I have to drink my water at room temperature, and I always start my day with a protein coffee or decaf green tea. The warm liquid does something to my stomach that makes it "relaxed" or something and calms it for the day. You being sick and your lack of protein and fluids are most definitely what's making you tired. I can't stand most protein powders, I think they taste like crushed vitamins. The only two I like are ready to drink Pure shakes in the can and GNC Wheybolic Extreme 60. IMO neither taste like protein shakes at all. I mix the GNC with coffee in the morning and it is just like starbucks.
Hang in there and it will get better. You will be able to drink more at once, etc. Also, my hunger is back and I love to eat. I kinda miss those days when I had no interest in food. It made it a lot easier to stay on track.

What we're doing is putting protein in our coffee - if you add it directly, just be sure the temp is under 140 degrees (I have a meat thermometer on my counter). Or you can make a slurry (water/protein) and pour the hot coffee over top. I also add some sugar free syrups - peppermint (settles the tummy), raspberry, cinnamon - definitely changes the flavors up!
I know its hard - especially in the beginning - until you find your taste buds again and find what works for you.
Go to my profile and I have a whole bunch of protein drink recipes there - you can print it out (I exported it to Word) and see what works for you.
