Thanks Shannon...good to hear positive stories like this!

Yeah, I was doing a few small meals a day. I would get very hungry if not. I had lost 10 more lbs last month and was eating a bit more but I had it under control and continued losing. I snack on string cheese, bananas, hard boiled eggs and I did fine with all that. The carb monster got me during the holidays.

Melissa,
You are going to be just fine hun!  You have a great plan.  I went through it the week before Thanksgiving and have made it a point to pay attention to what I am eating......NO snacky foods.....back on protien shakes.....(I always drink one or have a Chobani before bed so my metabolism is on overdrive while I sleep).  I've tried to cut out as many carbs as possible...I might have a sandwich with a Select Thin.......I've lost 10.5 lbs since 11/15......so it's possible!  You just need to get your head in the game........
As far is the MIL is concerned let her do her thing...if she wants to put herself into a diabetic coma that's her decision...(not trying to be heartless, but you can't let her drag you down with her)....it's hard to expect EVERYONE in your house to follow the same diet that you do.......children is one thing they are still learning to eat.....but parents and spouses are well set in thier ways......we have to learn to stick to our plan and JUST SAY NO to the choices we know we shouldn't make.....just because we had surgery doesn't mean we are immune to the urges and cravings.....we have to change our mindset too!

You will conquer this!

Thanks for the wise words!

I love the thin sandwich breads. I will have a sandwich once in a while. I try to keep a healthy balance and it does include good carbs. My doctor is not one of those that say to stay away from fruits and complex carbs. I actually started losing again when I added some to my diet. Our bodies need a little of it all to function and move.

No you're not heartless. I've said the same thing to myself.

I stock up on fresh veggies , lean fish and chicken beast , fatfree dairy , organic egg (whites _ and some fruit ( also butter buds and fat free cheese )

I drink a lot of water

I eat figs ( for fiber )

I make soups and stirfrys with lots of fresh veggies barely cooking them ... which fills me up without adding a lot of calories

make sure i get in lots of protein in preotein chai tea in the morning , also via chicken breast n FOOD - protein FIRST

I EXERCISE every day

snack is air popped popcorn ...... whole grain very filling and high fiber ....

no alcohol

no fat

no sugar or corn syrup or processed food

U drop weight in BUNCHES

I'm not a dieter either! LOL. I get manic when I try to restrict myself now.

But great advice.

I need to do some soups. It's been perfect weather for it.

Melissa, I don't really have any advice to give except to say that the 5DPT sounds like a good idea.  I'll probably be doing it myself in the very near future because I've noticed too much carb-y junk creeping back into my diet.  I know for myself that potato chips are the worst!  So I'm going to be outlawing big bags of potato chips.   I won't bother with the single serving size ones because I know they're for the kids' lunches.

The good news is that you're staying on top of this and nipping it in the bud.  Big hugs, kiddo!  We can do this!

Melissa,
I don't have anything helpful to add except that I think it's really important and incredible that you even noticed it and brought it here.  Would you have done that prior to having the surgery?  Or would you have just subtly slipped into your larger clothes, stopped weighing yourself, ignored it?  That's what I would've done before.
But that's not what you did.  You saw the problem, started to address the root issues (or continued to, in the case of your mom) and sought help.  Now, you're moving on to the next set of actions.  That's exactly right, IMO.
Hope you're giving yourself the credit you deserve!
