Got my date(s)! Gall bladder.. then band!

I got my dates from my surgeon yesterday! Much to my surprise, they found a sizeable gall stone during my ultrasound that I had no idea was there! So.... I am having my gall bladder out on Dec. 21 and getting my band on Dec 27! I am in for one hell of a holiday season!

Did anyone else have to have their gall bladder completely removed before surgery? Any recommendations?

Congrats on the dates! I still have my gall bladder, but I did have a laproscopic appendectomy years ago, which I hear is a very similar surgery to the gall bladder. It wasn't bad. It was an emergency surgery at midnight, and I got out of the hospital by 7pm that day. I had to walk a little bent over for a day, but after that I was good to go. If I remember correctly, I wasn't supposed to lift for a week or 2, but you won't be able to anyway with your band surgery right after.

Thanks, Shannon. I figured if I have to have 2 surgeries, I might as well have them as close together as possible so I don't have to recover from one then feel like crap all over again.

That's exactly how I would look at it! I've started looking into plastics (when finances allow) and I am seriously considering Mexico because they will do all the procedures at once. I hate being out of commission, so I don't want to do multiple rounds.

I had my gallbladder out in 1992 and it was done laprascopically.  It was absolutely the easiest surgery I ever had (and I've had a LOT).  I could have gone back to work in 2 days but the Dr made me take the week off.

I had my gall baldder out years before my RNY.  Back then there was only open and it wasn't fun.  But no open surgery is ever fun.

I actually had to postpone my WLS due to gallbladder issues. I had my gallbladder out on 10/5/10 and my RNY on 11/15/10. Both surgeries were done laparoscopically with no complications. I was actually more sore after my gallbladder surgery than the RNY, but my gallbladder had apparently been diseased for a long time and I was very swollen even before the surgery.

The biggest hassle for me has been the lifting restrictions. You will not be able to lift anything over about 10 pounds for some time, so make sure that you have plans to work around that (grocery shopping, laundry, kids, etc.).

Good luck!

Congratulations on getting your dates!!  I had my gall badder removed with open surgery years ago, it is a lot different than lap surgery.
My DD just had her gall bladder out and went back to work the next week.  She felt so much better once it was over with, just tired for a while.
Good luck.

I had my gallbladder removed Oct 09 and my VSG Feb 10. I had stones that were starting to cause pain.

The gallbladder surgery was worse than the VSG way worse, but even then wasn't terrible.

good luck and congrats on your dates!
