6 weeks post op

Hi All,

Well, I am 6 weeks post op tomorrow (had an appt with the doc today).  Well, I think I am doing very well in certain areas, food has been going pretty easy (threw up twice so far but totally my fault for not chewing enough) some constipation, but taking benefiber in my water daily that is seeming to help, etc... so I really have no real complaints or any real complications.

On surgery day I was 225.  Today I am 203.6.  That is a 21.4 lb loss in the last 6 weeks.  For me, I have never lost consistantly 3.5 lbs a week for 6 weeks straight (on average) so this really is a tool that is working very well.  I don't know why I am even writing this (maybe to convince myself to stop whining and pull up my grannie panties) AND I KNOW, I need to NOT compare myself to others, but at the beginning, I see people losing like 10 lbs the first couple of weeks and like 5 lbs a week thereafter and I am so NOT in that range.

I went to that calculator that someone posted this morning and it said I should have lost 20  lbs the first month and 18 the 2nd!  I am so no where near that, (am I using that tool wrong?).

Anyway, I feel like a big complainer now, as I am giving it some thought I am pretty happy with where I am, BUT if I am not in onederland by Xmas, then I am REALLY going to whine, so be forewarned!

Ok - STOP!  You can't compare yourself to others.  When you are on other boards and see what people are losing - you need to remember they more than likely, started out much heavier.  If you want to do a TRUE comparison - compare the percentage of body fat you're losing compared to them.

Being a lightweight we DO lose according to the scale a little slower - but we have a much higher chance of loosing up to 100% of our excess body weight - within the first year!  Again, your % of body fat lost will be equal to someone who has a higher amount to lose than you.

You want to lose 4 pounds by Christmas?  That's a month away!  You can probably figure on losing 8-10 lbs during that month.

My weight loss was like (by memory so it may not be 100% accurate),

Month:
1 - 20
2 - 9
3 - 10
4 - 8
etc....

The further out you get the less pounds a month you will/may/should lose - mainly because you won't have as much to lose... make sense?

Regain 30 lbs from 2012 to 2016 - got back on track and lost it.  Took 8 months.

I agree with Jody, you are doing GREAT!!  I lost about 8 lb a month.  Your tool is working, just stay on your program, and don't be too impatient...it WILL come off!!  Happy journey.

I know ladies and you are all right!  As I was writing it and thinking about how far I have come, I wanted to smack myself, but I hit post anyway.  But that calculator thing, am I missing something??  It really did have me losing so much more in month 2 than I will hit, but was I doing something wrong?  I told it my starting weight, my height and that I wanted to lose 100% of my excess?  Should I have put like 65%?  I really do want to lose 100% (who doesn't??) but is that where you can tell if you are on target to lose a certain %?

Anyway, just going to keep my chin up, and yes, I am really happy if I just get that next 4 lbs by xmas!! Then I will be in onederland before 2011!!!!

Sounds like you have everything under control.

I'm with the others - don't compare yourself to anyone else.  We are all different.  It will come off if you follow your plan.  I don't know of many that lost 18 pounds the second month.  Most drop to around 8-10 the second month.  There are some that go into a stall and don't drop any weight for several weeks.

Good luck and hang in there - it will happen!!

I am just ahead of you almost  weeks and please do not compare your loss to any chart . I watched on the boards for months before my surgery... and saw that when someone/ say  me  starts comparing, I would feel defeated. I decided ." I am not going there"
My loss is loss... and it is different than someone else. As lightweights we loose perhaps slower than others.. but look at your bmi now... you are rockin down girl~!

I have learned to also notice that the scale may not have moved... but my clothes size has... so it is all good..
I just went through a constipation for 5 plus days.. and had to go to Kaiser... drink your water and make sure you have fiber... I learned by experience... and I am not going there again!

YOU are doing great!

Hey there, I'm the one who posted the calculator in a previous post.  First of all let me say you are doing fantastic with your weightloss!  Now........that calculator is not going to be accurate for everyone.  I was right on the first couple of months then it was REALLY off after that....IMO it is just a way for people to get an idea of what the AVERAGE WLS patient can expect.  Everyone is different.  I have used the calculator to remind myself when I'm falling off track from the goal I have set for myself.  We all want to loose 100% of our excess weight......but for many that is not going to follow the time table we think it will........I lost 90% of my excess weight by the time I was 7 months out..........and have stayed the same since then.......with a jump up or down every couple weeks........I have 7.5 lbs to go if I'm going to hit 100% and it is going to be a struggle and alot of hard work for me just like it is for everyother woman who is 35 5'6" and 149lbs......The difference is I don't get hungry the way they do......

Hang in there and keep working your tool.........it will get you there.....
