Recovering from Surgery

Well, I planned on posting much sooner than this but forgot my password and had to wait until I returned to work.  My surgery went well, I quit breathing when they removed my breathing tube and it took a while to get me going again, but other than that, pretty uneventful.  Have had little pain, energy level comes and goes, but I expected that.  I've progressed to pureed foods this week and will move to soft foods on December 14.  We dealt with Thankgiving by ignoring it this year.  Did find out through a liver biopsy that I have NASH so I'm grateful for this surgery since weight loss is the best thing for NASH.  I am so glad to have this forum as my support system.  Thank you.

Don't know why my tracker isn't working.  I've lost 30 pounds, down to 218 at this time.

Good to hear from you. How scary to have stopped breathing!!!!  Glad things have been fairly smooth since that time.  Congrats on moving on to pureed foods.  What is NASH?  Is there any tx for this other than wt. loss?

Hi Jane,
NASH stands for nonalcoholic steatohepatits.  It starts out as fatty liver disease, if scarring occurs it turns into NASH, if the scarring is excessive it can become cirrosis.(sp?)  It's a silent liver disease that usually isn't diagnosed until in the late stages.  My preop liver tests shows elevated enzymes so they did a biopsy when they did the surgery.  Much to my disappointment, it turned out positive for NASH.  But weight loss hopefully will keep it from getting worse.  Can't do anything about the scarring.  Just glad I'm on the loser's bench.

Other than the breathing part, great report.  30 lbs is wonderful.  Welcome to the loser's bench.

Thanks for your responses.  It's definately better on this side, than waiting for the surgery.

Wow - how scary!  I'm glad things are going well now though.

My liver enzymes have been high since surgery - and when I got my labs pre-surgery, they weren't tested, which I was very disappointed to tell.

I wonder how I can tell if that's what I've got too without a liver biopsy?
