Hi!
I upped my level of ballet today, and guess what??? I was right in the middle, in terms of skill. Some things I did better than anyone (my extensions are really good, turnout is good, arch is really good.) Basically, the things that you can't learn to do as an adult I did pretty well because they're just there in my body.
My trouble is remembering the choreography! This instructor very quietly marks (as in not doing it full out) the routine and expects the dancers to understand it, pick it up, and do it perfectly. Not I!
I'm also having trouble with my pirouettes, though they got better by the end of class. I think that the issue there is that I don't quite know where my center is, since the circumference keeps getting smaller. That's a good thing, but it makes balance more tricky. I think.
Anyway, ballet was great. I'm going to try to go 3 times this week - I saw a preview for Natalie Portman's new movie "Black Swan" where she plays a professional ballerina. She practiced 3 hours a day to get ready for the role, and by the time they filmed, she was able to do 90% of the choreography. She'd only had ballet up till she was 13 years old. This inspires me because if she can practice and get good like that, I can, too!
So there! :)
Hope everyone else had good workout days, too. Hope your indoor experiment is going well, Diana! (Where do you live, anyway, where it's so cold???)
