Holiday Challenge - Week 6 - November 28th
1. Did you have plan for Thanksgiving? How would you honestly appraise how you did?
I did and I did fine. My plan was to eat my protein first, then whateven veggies were there that I could have. I did taste 2 pies, one tiny bite each, but that was ok. My DH brought back a ton of leftovers from Atlanta of which turkey was the only thing on my plan. I haven't touched any of it.
2. Let's look back a year. Where were you at Thanksgiving last year?
Last year I wasn't even thinking surgery and I'm sure I ate way more than necessary, then ate the leftovers that DH brought back.
3. Are you closer to your goal? Anything that you're feeling particularly proud of?
I was very pleased to meet my original HC goal on Thanksgiving day. I reset the goal and hope I can met it. I saw several folks over the weekend that I don't see often and they didn't recognize me. That was fun.
4. We're coming up on December? What can we do to keep our momentum going?
I need to get back on track with exercise. I go to Curves but when they aren't open, I'm bad about not doing something at home. It has been cold and working the horses is not fun in the cold. I need to get some better cold weather stuff so they get exercise too. I have 2 big potlucks coming up and have planned to make SF deserts for both. Protein first, veggies, then maybe a taste of SF desert is my plan.

Hi beautiful Price. I read on another thread that you are wearing smaller pants. That is a huge WOW!
You did great with your holiday plan. Kudos! That was wicked of your DH to bring back all those things that aren't on your plan.
I bet all of us that were pre-ops or just considering surgery last year ate a LOT. Look at all of the changes in your behaviour since last year. You've done great with your recovery.
That's so much fun when people don't recognize you. I bet you are glowing so much more. Congratulations on meeting your first goal on Thanksgiving! I'll be cheering you on to the next one.
Good job having a plan for those potlucks!
Now that you're wearing smaller sizes, maybe you can get some cold weather clothes that will fit you even as you shed those pounds.

1. Did you have plan for Thanksgiving? How would you honestly appraise how you did?
I did good Thanksgiving day. I didn't eat a lot. It was the rest of the weekend that killed me.
Went out with friends and food was everywhere. I gained 2 lbs.
2. Let's look back a year. Where were you at Thanksgiving last year?
Last year I was recovering from gall bladder surgery. I was in a lot of pain. I ended up losing
10 lbs after I got over feeling lousy from surgery.
3. Are you closer to your goal? Anything that you're feeling particularly proud of?
No, I am up about 6 lbs and I am freaking out. I plan to really stick to the program - protein and veggies only until I lose it.
4. We're coming up on December? What can we do to keep our momentum going?
I really want to stay away from parties and places where there will be goodies. I want to keep that memory fresh in my mind of where the scale is sitting when I see the gain and remember that I don't want it going up- I want it to go DOWN back to where it's supposed to be! I plan to be vigilant with my exercise too!

I think we may be similar in that we do well on the occasion, then not so great afterwards. This year I didn't have much planned after Thanksgiving and it was easy to stick to plan, but I get where you're coming from!
I had GB surgery last November as well. That's when some of my pre-op weight came off.
I'm really sorry about those 6 pounds. I know you're stressing about them, but you have a great plan of protein and veggies to get them back off!
I'm with you about staying away from holiday parties. I'm so not wanting to test my resolve and my food plan. I just want to keep putting one foot in front of the other towards goal.
Thanks for posting!! :)

see ya lighter,
Toni
Toni, I don't know how long it takes until our mindset changes. Last week after eating 4 Hershey Kisses, I wondered the same dang thing. Ok, so you overate on Thanksgiving. Do you want to do that again on Christmas? Time to start planning now. I think that a change in mindset starts happening long before the event. We've spent ? years eating our way through the holidays. Does that change in a day? Probably not. So start forming your plan now and visualizing yourself pushing back from the table. When offered something, I think of the WW bumper sticker on my fridge that says... No Thank You, Maybe Later.
You did great getting right back on plan. I think that is truly the beauty of our WLS is that it allows us to not wallow and encourages us to hop right back on, then it gives us the restriction necessary to make it possible. I too was amazed to not crave sugar after having a little bit of dessert on Thursday.
Oh yeah, I spent over 50 years hating my reflection in the mirror. I can so relate.
I love your #4. Mindfulness. I want to start yoga this month to help me with that. I'm Tivoing every Namaste Yoga session that comes on FitTV this month. :)
Yes, please keep checking in, because we have to do all this together!

1. I did plan a non-traditional, WL friendly meal, but got the "blues" and didn't cook...grazed all day....but not too bad, no scale changes.
2. Was miserable and fat last yr, ate whatever I wanted, but wasn't too bad then either. Didn't want to others to say "that's why she's so fat"
3. Closer to goal, lost 1 lb last week!!! Down to 163...thinking I might make it to 160 by yrs end.
4. I have a few challenges in Dec. Next Monday going to a cookie/candy swap party!! Never been to one before, and I want to go and enjoy the people and party, but I'm gonna be tempted with at least 20 different cookies and candies. Trying to make a plan around that now. Also, suppose to bring home treats....I may just take a few things, or nothing at all. Also coming up in Dec. Cookie and candy making with DH's DD and GDs. I seem to do o.k. and can just taste, just need to MAKE that resolve.
Have a good week, Lee and All

Hi Jane,
I'm glad the blues have passed!
You're going to make it to your goal and we'll all be cheering for you!
Now about that party. Here's my suggestion. Eat a full meal of dense protein right before you go. That should hold you for the duration of the party. I would make a resolve to leave everything at the party. Don't bring things home because you know that they will end up in your mouth if you are anything like me. At Thanksgiving, I said no thank you to bringing home a plate for the next day. Promise yourself that if you want a cookie the next day, you can go to the finest bakery in town and buy 1 cookie. Don't think of it as deprivation. Is your DH uber slim? If not, why tempt him with bringing things home.
Leave it and rejoice in another step towards new healthy habits. Definitely let us know what you decide and how you handle it. We all learn from each other. :)

1. Did you have plan for Thanksgiving? How would you honestly appraise how you did?
Yes, I had a plan, I was in charge of the vegetables for our dinner. I did not feel deprived. I had protein first, then veggies,2Tbs of mashed potatoes,1 dumpling and a bite of two desserts. I did not bring any leftovers home with me, but was sorely tempted by the desserts. The sugar still calls I just can't eat as much as I use to.
2. Let's look back a year. Where were you at Thanksgiving last year?
Last year I had everything I wanted and ate for days. However, I started my two week liquid diet the Monday after Thanksgiving. I was a miserable 250 pounds and so out of control when it came to food.
3. Are you closer to your goal? Anything that you're feeling particularly proud of?
This morning I was down to 158, down 4 lbs since HC began. I have my 1 yr post op appt 12/17 and I want to be as close to 150 as I can. I would love to be down 100#, but if not I will be ok because 92 is not shabby! I ordered a pair of jeans in a size 6, can't wait until they come and I can see if I am able to wear out of the house!!
4. We're coming up on December? What can we do to keep our momentum going?
I am tracking my food daily and have been since HC began. I find it holds me accountable, no mindless eating or guessing about the calories, fats etc. Also, I am going to exercise more, either at home with my WII or in the pool. I am going to stay focused with the support I get from our LW group and use all info given with an open mind and heart.
Thank you LEELEE- you are awesome-Brenda

Hi Brenda!!
I'd say you had a very very successful Thanksgiving. I hope you're really proud of yourself because I sure am! You did great. :)
Oy, my top weight last year was 249, so I can totally relate to how you felt. I was a good dieter, but I just couldn't get the scale to move. I'm so glad our numbers have changed since then!!
There is NOTHING shabby about 92 pounds! Most people would trample others to shed 92 pounds. You're going to do great at the doctor's appointment.
Did you say SIZE SIX?? OMG, just to order them must have been a thrill. You know we want to see pictures! Today I wore my new size 10 cords. I can't flippin believe my formerly fat ass fit into a size 10 today. You must be jumping up and down at the thought of a SIX! Pictures please. :)
I love that open heart and open mind. I always pray to be teachable. I too track everything. Weigh****chers rolled out a new plan tonight and I think I'm going to track using their system to see if I can't do something to jumpstart my weight loss. I only have one month to shed 10 pounds for the HC. Opps! :)
