Good Morning. My fridge is full of leftovers...

...and I don't want to eat any of them. I feel much better sticking to my boring "straight and narrow" routine. I'm going to work this morning for a few hours and those 3 pies that are in the upstairs fridge are moving to the basement fridge...outta sight, outta mind. I will not tell this board how many pieces of cherry pie I had yesterday. If you're that morbid, you can check the DS board "Bites, Vites & Exercites" thread for Turkey Day. Needless to say, I overindulged and will be so very glad when all the food is gone.

I don't know if I've done myself a disservice by not learning to eat dense protein or not. I can't eat protein first and expect to be able to eat anything afterward when I'm with family...even at 3 years post-op. So, on days like Thanksgiving, I eat around the plate one bite at a time. I was done within 5 minutes, easy. Then the snacks kick in and I graze as is my normal mode of operation. [sigh] My doc, dietitian and I all knew I was a grazer going into this, so I guess I picked wisely for my WLS. Sometimes it just drives me nuts that I can't eat much dense protein and have a little room for other things like veggies that are good for me. I guess that's where measuring could come into the game. At least I'd feel like I was in control and control is very important to me....

Anyway, your thoughts on your successes or failures on Thanksgiving?

I feel I overate too.  I took a SF pumpking pie and a no sugar added cherry pie, but that didn't stopo me from trying the peanut butter/chocolate pie (small piece) and grazing on cheese and wheat thins.

I put a little on my plate of most things, and ate the turkey pretty much first.  I was the first one done eating (not because I was fast, but because i didn't eat as much as the others), but still feel as though I WAY overindulged.

Comparing what I ate to everyone elses - i didn't... but according to my standards... I did!

A new day!

I did ok.  Of course I am a whole lot closer to surgery than you guys are.  I ate my protein first, small amounts of 3, turkey, ham and beef.  Then apples, greenbeans and pineapple, just a bite or 2 of each.  After an hour or so, I got a bite of the cherrys from a cherry cobbler and a bite of the filling of a german chocolate pie and was done.  No leftovers until tonight when my DH comes home from his families. Didn't dump and although it wasn't a lot of sugar, it was more than I have had to date.  Maybe I won't but I won't test it seriously again any time soon.  The scale was still at 167 so I'm happy.

I ate a sufficient amount yesterday. So did Liz. We have no leftovers at our home because we went to my FIL's for Thanksgiving.

Although I live in Israel, there are many who still observe "American" holidays.
This was the 1st year in many that I attended a Thanksgiving dinner.
My "poor" friend whose home it was in had ti contend with 8 lady friends health/dietary and food memory requests!
Diabetic, Chinese Medine (no raw food), vegan, allergy, and food dislikes.
Each lady contributed some dish  -- I made 2 different fresh cabbage salads.
I don't like pumpkin pie or sweet salads.
I was lucky enough to be able tp bring home some of her leftovers.
We ate and reminisced on past Thanksgiving meals before we all  had immigrated to Israel and how different our family traditions were, and ate some more - and then each of us expressed what we are all grateful for in our lives.

Hi Mikimi,

We all expressed our gratitudes as well.  It's a tradition where I go.

May I ask where you immigrated from?  I have relatives that immigrated, both during WWII from Poland and some later from the USA and Argentina.

Good Morning,

I went to a friends house wehre I go every year.  In fact, this is the home where I fractured my ankle on Thanksgiving 2007.  They always walk me out to my car since that happened.  (dark road, no lights and I stepped into a hole when I turned to close the gate and then promptly fell flat on my little face).    I was responsible for bringing plain baked organic sweet potatoes, everything on the table was organic.  I cooked one extra and left it home for myself to eat over a few meals this weekend.  No other leftovers.  When people were making plates of turkey etc to bring home, I sat in the other room and had a nice conversation.

I did eat my turkey w/gravy first, then had room for one bite each of mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and kale.  I left food on my plate and didn't feel bad about it.

The the dessert course where I had planned to sample.  The apple crumb pie didn't look appealing so that was easy.  I had 1 T each of sweet potato and pumpkin pie, pass on the ice cream but then the chocolate flourless cake called me and I had about 2T of that.  My little Sleeve told me it was time to conceed and back away from the table.

I took up Rosa's challenge and wore jeans because they are my only pants with a waistband right now.  My work pants are all black knit from Kohl's because they shrink a bit in the dryer and I only have 4 pairs for 4 days of work in the office.

I woke up at 5am and decided that for the first time in my life, I'm going shopping this morning!  I'm going to my favorite WLS shopping place (besides goodwill and my friends closets) to look for my fav black pants in an XS because the S are getting too loose.  I'm also going in search of size 10 jeans that fit and maybe some other work pants as well as some xmas gifts.  When I get home it's a walk around the lake with a WLS buddy.

Wow, I was chatty this morning!

Wow, Lee, sounds like you did great.  Those last # are going to come off for sure.  And XS, wow again.  I was happy to be in an L this weekend.

Price, I discovered that they don't make those particular pants in an XS so I'll just have to keep drying the S's after each washing so that they shrink up a bit for the 1st wearing.   I'm praying those last #'s come off!  I didn't have this surgery to still be overweight, if I can help it.

Being in a L is a big yahoo, isn't it?   I think it all depends upon the pant.
