Hello All,

My mom and I had surgery the same day, she had been feeling great but this morning she began bleeding when she pees.  Could this be like a kidney infection or something else?  Has anyone else ever had that soon after surgery? She is 3 weeks out.  She's going to the doctor now but I am so paranoid that something has gone wrong.

It's probably just a UTI from having the catheter in........she should go see her PCP to verify and gets some antibiotics started.  Blood in the urine usually indicates 2 things, pylonephritis (UTI) or kidney stones........definitely not an emergency but worthy of an immediate Dr.s visit either with her PCP or urgent care.  I wouldn't worry too much........neither of these are too serious if treated.....Just can be painful for a couple days!

I'm glad Cindy......I had a UTI last month.  I pee'd and all was good and then 2 hours later I pee'd again and my urine was PINK.  About an hour later I started to have back pain.  I thought I was passing a kidney stone for sure because of how quickly the symptoms came on......and I've seen it a million times..........I went in and they did a CT to check for kidney stones which thankfully was negative.  They started me on antibiotics and gave me a few pain meds and a medicine that would stop my ureters from contracting and I felt like new 3 days later.....seeing blood in places that it shouldn't be can be scary.......

Thank you all for your answers. She went to the doctor and got tests done, they'll give her the results tomorrow in the mean time they gave her antibiotics. It does not seem major. Dr told her to drink more water ...which we both have been having troublr doing consistently.

Thanks again

I'm glad she is ok!  If you are having trouble getting in liquids I would suggest using a digital kitchen timer.  I used to have the sucker go off every 5 minutes for the first month until I was just conditioned to take my sips......lol  Kind of like pavlovs dog theory.......ring the bell.....LOL
