Room! An NSV
I think it's been a while since I've flown, and it's been a while since I went to the movies.
Well, I went to both this week, and let me tell you - I noticed something very strange (to me).
At the movie theater, I noticed that my arms barely reached the armrests! I doubt that they've gotten shorter, but I think that I must've relied on my hips holding up my arms or something. I don't know what's different, but I just thought "wow, these seats are really too big for me!"
Then, flying back and forth to Atlanta, I wound up in center seats for the flight. On my way down, I was nervous because I worried that it would be too uncomfortable. Turns out that there was plenty of room between me and the armrests again. The seat actually felt a bit spacious (and yes, I was in steerage/I mean coach, where I always sit.)
Interestingly enough, the woman to my right and I got into a conversation about NYC, and I mentioned that I live next door to a supermodel, which sucks because she's all supermodelly and raises the standards in the building, etc. And she said to me, "oh, then you should move down south where 70% of the people are obese! You're totally skinny where I come from." That was an interesting thing to hear, though I do hate how people manipulate and use overweight people to make themselves feel better. It's an evil habit.
Finally, on the way back to NY, I sat in the middle next to a wonderful woman and a quiet man. Neither was able to comfortably lower the armrests fully, which made me sad for them. The man had to keep getting up to go to the bathroom (he was seated at the window) and eventually I just started sitting with my legs crossed under me, which I was able to do quite comfortably without encroaching on their space. This felt incredible, because I was that [limber] girl!
The only trouble I had flying was that my arse (probably tailbone) was sore sore sore after about an hour. I don't understand this because I still have a substantial booty. Oh well.
Anyway, I just wanted to share these victories because they are the kind of thing I ate up when preparing for my surgery. Quality of life improvements are delicious, ladies and gentlemen.

OH ROSA, I'm so happy to read about your airplane and movie experiences. You're graduated to a new level of "thin". Isn't it wonderful?? When I was flying back from Denver in September, a man asked to sit in the middle seat next to me. I though I had "arrived" into a new world as I was the one that people used to shut their eyes and pray i wasnt going to sit next to them and infringe on their space.
How cool that you could sit with your legs up. Now that's really limber!! All of your ballet classes are making such a difference in how you carry yourself.
I flew in October for my birthday and it was great in coach. I'm flying back east on Christmas day and can't wait to see how those seats feel. Isn't it amazing the little victories that are really what makes life so much better post WLS. I never want to go back to the 249 pounds that i was last year when the seat handles wouldn't stay down, either on a plane or in the movie theatre.
Bravo for all of your accomplishments. Thank you for sharing them with us. :)

Good for both of you ladies. I had a similar experience flying the end of October. I'm not as thin as you ladies yet but I had to take in the seat belt when before I was alway worried if it would go around me.

Hadn't thought of those things. For me it will be tying my shoes without struggle and getting out of breath. One person described it feels like there is an inner tube around her all the time, that's a good description for me. After Tuesday, I intend to deflate that old inner tube.
Thanks for sharing, it does give hope.
