Not to happy with my PCP
I had to go for my 1st 6 month dr supervised diet this week. The WLS Center gave me a paper that had what the insurance usually require for the dr notes. I just got a copy of the notes yesterday. All she did pretty much was copy down twice the criteria. Not notes about me but about what the insurance wanted. Not sure if that is sounded quite right. She kept saying that it was a waste of time and money. I was not happy when she quoted some of what I told her about the insurance requires her to only have dr notes on my supervised diet that you can't be seen for anything else. Instead of actually doing 2 different sets of notes she just wrote that I told her to do that. She also put in there what I said about what the WLS Center said about my insurance company saying they are being sporadic about what they require for the surgery. Why would she put those in my dr notes. I told her I need her to put down calories, exercise, behavioral changes, weight, all my health issues, medications. ect. I don't really know what to do about her office note because I don't think that the ins. is going to except. Oh she also talked about when I asked her if we could use my Sept. and Oct visits to back date so we could use those. She actually wrote that in her notes for me to give to the ins. company. Is she trying to sabotage me? I don't know what to do. :(
I hope she just didn't understand, or else she is being horrible. I understand her not wanting to see you and do the notes each month. My WLS center did all that instead of the PCP, but if yours doesn't, there is no other way to get the information. All my insurance required was what diet I was on, dates I showed up and what I weighed. Ours were done in support group meetings and it met the criteria for everyone who needed it for insurance. Maybe they, insurance, will be happy with whatever you have although it doesn't seem to be what you want. Can you do it with weigh****cher's instead? That would have the dates, diet, and weight.

Yeah, I agree with NatsCat. Fire her butt and find a doc who will work with you. Also, call your insurance company and get their requirements, and get the names of people you talk to. Even better if you can get them to send you a copy of the requirements. They may be in the middle of a change and giving out mixed information, so make sure you get the updated requirements. Maybe you could see if you can get the bariatric office to suggest some WLS-friendly PCPs.
Good luck!

I have called my insurance company so many times and every single person I have talked to says that they do not require a 6 month dr supervised diet yet my WLS Center insists that they do and that this is something new. I have medicaid. The thing is my PCP is the one who talked me into doing this surgery and the WLS Center Coordinator says my PCP is great about getting everything that I need but I am not really seeing this. The office yes but the doc not so much. She is different that is forsure sometimes I like her and other times I can't stand her, that is just her personality I guess. I have been waiting for the WLS Coordinator to get back from vacation which I believe is Monday. I have sent her an email and hopefully she will get back to me soon. She is pretty good about getting right back to you. Thanks for the support guys. I might switch docs but then I would have to start all over again for my 6 months diet even though I am not sure they will except what she put down.
You would only have to repeat the first of the 6 monthly visits and honestly? If she is not putting down the correct info, then 6 months down the road when you should be done with thoses visits you are gonna be starting all over for real.
You don't have to stay with a PCP who is not looking out for your good and she clearly is not.
good luck,
Holly

Are there other doctors that others have gone to that support WLS? If so.. pick one of them and fire this person. Do not try and convince her or him, they are hell bent against it for some reason.
My doctor who I love, embrased me and gave me the best hug... saying..."lets do it" and smiled from ear to ear.
She must have some umderlying baggage about WLS... and God forbid that she is one of the ones in medical field that thinks ."if we only did what we are suppose to " we would not be overweight.
My feeling ... and I am going to be extreemly blunt,....fire her.

Is there some way you can convince the WLS Center to submit to insurance NOW to see if they'll approve, and if not, what the requirements would be?

The WLS Coordinator was on vacation last week so I do have a email into her asking about if that is a possibility. I am just waiting for her to get back to me hopefully tomorrow. I also told her that my PCP is not being very compliant with my 6 month supervised diet. I am not quite ready right now to get insurance approval. I still have a few more things to finish up but I am hoping that shortly after the first of the year I will be ready. :)
