Unfounded fear

Ok, so here goes.  This is really stupid, however it is something that I am now dreaming about.  Has anyone gone for surgery only to wake up and have them tell you that they couldn't perform the surgery?  I have had a few abdominal surgeries, c-sections, hysterectomy, appendix and gallbladder and my fear is that there is too much scar tissue.  My rational mind says,  I have only had one upper abdominal surgery, however since I have failed at every diet that this will fail too.  In fact, dieting has contributed to my weight gain, it seems the more I diet, the more weight I eventually gain.  Anyway, just my crazy thoughts

Hang tough! Nothing close enough to the stomach to affect the surgery. If it were having one of the malabsorptive surgeries your surgeon may need to ask for permission to do your surgery open if he can't do it laparoscopically.

((hugs))

I had 4 previous abdominal surgeries and I wasn't afraid they couldn't do it but that they would need to do open and it had always been before.  Nope, it all went fine.  I did have lots of scar tissue and the surgeon even brought pictures out to show my husband all the adhesions he had to cut out.  It took 3.5 hrs instead of 1.5, but I have had not problems and no complications and I don't think I was any sorer than anyone else.
You will do fine.  Not to worry.

The only time I've heard of people waking up without having their surgery was if their liver was too enlarged or they had some other type of complication.
I had 2 c-sections and an open gall bladder and I had lap-RNY.  I don't think you would have any problems.
Good luck.

Congrats on your up coming surgery!!!   I felt the same way about dieting...it only made me heavier...but I promise you if you stick with us, learn the basics, and follow the rules, you will be successful this time!!!

There are no crazy thoughts!!!   I was worried about them not being able to do mine too because I had 3 C-Sections and a hysterectomy and I was cut up/down for all of them.  My Surgeon assured me that scare tissue wouldn't be that big of an issue but I gave him permission to do the open if he had to.

I had lap RNY without any problems.  Oh and the pain for WLS was practically nothing compared to the others.

Thanks Roz!  My scars are the same, a roadmap of sorts.  The flintstones were my favourite childhood cartoon.  I am so glad I am having surgery before the New Year.  Mentally for me it means I am not starting another year feeling crappy, it is a chance to start fresh and see results for the efforts, which is one of the reasons I was thinking that maybe my other surgeries would stop things.  Can't wait to be on the otherside of December!
