I am pre-op and the scariest thing to me about WLS is that I will find a way to fail!

I have low...make that very low metabolism and am on thyroid medication.  Had graves disease and they radiated my thyroid about 8 years ago...gained 80+ pounds and have tried every diet in the books.  I am a human yo-yo.  I can slowly lose weight and quickly gain it back + a bonus 10 lbs as an added prize.

I am fearful that I will fail.  I think I am going to low carb it for a long time after surgery, if not forever.  Has anyone not lost weight with VSG?  Please tell me I cannot fail at this.  I don't need to be a size 4 or 6.  I will be happy with a size 10, I promise!

We are seeing VSGrs coming to the DS board asking questions about getting the second stage (DS) due to lackluster WL with the VSG alone or regain a couple of years out. No lightweights that I recall though.

What scared me the most about WLS was 2 things:
1.  Not waking from the anesthesia.  10 years ago I went through my MIL having heart valve surgery and never completely awakening (she was semi-conscious for 1 week) and then stroked out and died.  She was very healthy and not overweight at all so that left scars for the entire feamily.
2.  Failure of the surgery.  More people had to be told than I wanted and I can tell when they are looking me over.  I must confess that, until this week, I continued to have this fear.  But, I quit doing some bad things, re-started some good things and the weight is now coming off again.

Family and closest friends:  Almost everyone tried to talk me out of it, including DH.  The only ones for it were my PCP and the surgeon. Oops. I take that back.... my personal trainer was all for it b/c she saw me struggle for the last 2 years.  My DH finally came on board 10 days before the surgery when he went with me to my last preop visit and listened to both the surgeon and other people who were having the surgery.  Since surgery, many more people have been encouraging since they see me trying so hard and getting results.

I am so grateful for this tool and grateful that I already feel so much better, though I wouldn't say my energy is at 100% yet.   One more pound and I will be 1/3 of the way to goal!!!!!
