Re-Commitment to Clean, Healthy Eating--

Just thought I'd post and see how everyone is doing?

My eating is good, exercise is too.  Today I had a weak moment and picked up a can of Diet Coke.  I looked at it and put it back down.  I know some people drink soda but for me it is a slippery slope and I've been soda-free for 11 mths.  I miss the carbonation more than anything but I don't "need" soda, esp. when I should be drinking water.

How is everyone's week going?  Are you prepared for the holidays?

Hi Shammy!  Glad to hear you're doing well and was able to break free from your weak moment.
I don't drink pop (soda to most).  I completely cut it out and I'm 2 years post op - BUT I do drink beer, which is carbonated.... I don't miss the pop at all!

Holidays?  We have holidays coming?  Oh no.... I really dread this time of year because it means spending money, I never seem to have enough, and don't know what everyone wants...  but - with a new boyfriend - it should be a bit more fun and exciting!!

I've had a few sips of lite beer and it causes serious belching.  I'm guessing the soda would be the same?

Ohhh I so know what you mean about never having enough money--I like to indulge for my loved ones and really have to pull back sometimes.  Wow--that new BF will certainly make the holidays fun!!

Yes, when I started introducing beer back into my diet - it caused MAJOR belching - and yes, the pop would do that too I'd think.

My Dr gave me the impression that carbonation could stretch the stoma... I'd like to hear others' take on that...

I was such a soda addict before surgery! I used to drink at least 3 huge fountain sodas or 6 cans a day. I quit cold-turkey after my initial consultation with the surgeon. I took a sip of DDs soda one time when we were out to eat and it was so gross! Also, we had a bonfire a month ago and I had someone bring me a diet dr pepper...it's still un-opened in my fridge.

This will be my first post-op holiday season. I'm done Christmas shopping minus a couple of little things...but I am trying to mentally prepare for all of the tempting horrible food. My family has been working hard to find healthier versions of the classics (with much success!) But DH's family is all MO and they make horrible food! I feel like packing my own dinner, but I hate to offend them. They already make crappy comments about my size all the time.

That stinks that your in-laws feel the need to be negative.  I can empathize though--I hear it from from my mom, sister and some co-workers.

I will have to be more cognizant of carb intake over the holidays.  I do not touch sugar at all.  No temptation either, which is a blessing, and mostly based on my absolute fear of dumping.  Some people think that being fearful of food is weird or strange---I'm totally ok with it quite frankly.

Wow, you are seriously ahead of the game with all your shopping being done!  I have yet to start or even think about it.  WTG on passing up the soda!!

Shammy - I'm EXACTLY with you!  I don't eat sugar - for fear of dumping - or fear I'll find out I DON'T dump anymore...  but carbs... yep - no issues (unless I drink alcohol with them).  I don't do that anymore...  Now I have the fear of Reactive Hypoglycemia episode coming on, so I'm fearful of eating simple carbs WITH drinking a beer or having a glass of wine.  Honestly?  Its kept my carb consumption WAY down now....  even when I'm NOT drinking!

Went out to dinner a few months ago - had a beer while waiting for a table, then ate a dinner roll before dinner came.  I had an episode about an hour and a half later - no fun!  Sometimes its just the simplest things too....
