Gina - Vitalady - vitamin questions!
So we were discussing my labs. My K-1 and A are just 1 point above the lowest range. She said both of these are fat soluable and need fat to be absorbed - and guessed I wasn't eating enough fat... HUH? . I'm pretty sure I eat enough fat.. unless I'm still MAJORLY malabsorbing it.. which I highly doubt.
I eat primarily protein (which has fat), peanut butter (spoonful every now and then), butter on my toast, etc.
I take 10000 iu of sublingual Vit A a day. Now - Vit K-1 I don't supplement. She said I could but go only for 90 mcg a day. She thought I should be getting enough from my multi, but I guess not.
So - my question to you is - is there something I can take/eat with the Vit A and future K-1 supplements to help them absorb?
Vit D is STILL not back - I have an email into the lab AGAIN questioning where its at. Hey - I paid for it! Oh, and the insurance company denied paying for the K-1. Said it wasn't the right diagnosis code.... $75 out of my pocket... guess it could be worse?

Add a K1 and a K2...both are tiny tiny capsules from Vitalady. You might need close to 1000mcg of K1 not 100. Just try to go by the Vitalady schedule for RNY except do a little higher on the A and K1. K2 comes in a 50mcg and a 150mcg. Start with the 50mcg with one of your calcium doses.
Sounds like the dietitian doesn't get all the malabsorption and conversion stuff yet. At least she's not brainwashed to believe all fat is evil. lol

I'll go to her website and look for the K1 and K2. The dietician was concerned because it is fat soluable and toxicity...

Is there a difference between the Acetate and the Palmitate? I've been taking the Acetate one all along...

Your RD doesn't think you malabsorb FAT? I mean, what are DS famous for? MALABSORBING FATS. The stats say you get 20% of what you eat, I'd put it at 5%.
You get NO ADEK, selenium, CoQ10 from food, none.
There's nothing wrong with the 10k of A, but I suggest 100k to start. 50k of D until you learn if you need more.
I suggest 1000mcg of K1.
These are water soluble forms of the fat soluble vites so they don't stack up in the liver. Now, truly, I've had ppl with 40 degrees after their names stand there holding a very water soluble vit in their hand and insisting fat solubles can't be water soluble.
Well, maybe when the text book was copied by monks back in the 1600's, but in modern times, all 6 of the fat solubles can be had in water soluble form. My life depends on it!
Understanding that neither docs nor RD's really understand the OTC supplement world. Docs know rx, RD's know food. There is no such thing as a 90mcg vit K1. (I refrained from LOL - really - I did), so the smallest is 100, but to a DS, it's the same as nothing.
You have to weigh every bit of info you get against what you can see with your own eyes and make your decision accordingly.
I take 2 of the K1 1000 and hold mid-range. Don takes SIX of them (rx dose is 5) and can't reach the bottom of the range. It's all so personal. My ist is just a place to start. Then you test, tweak. And I mean for the rest of your life, you are forever adjusting.
