A hello from a long-lost LW
Hi, everyone!
It's been a really long time since I've popped in on the LW board, and I'm sorry. I used to hang out a lot here when I was pre-op, but I guess I didn't really post all that much...just was trying to soak in as much information as I could, especially when I was in the "deciding which surgery type to get" stage. I decided on the DS, with a lot of guidance from the lovely and wonderful Gina (MajorMom). I will be forever grateful to her for helping me along the way - giving me support and sharing her knowledge (especially with my vitamin regimen) - I couldn't have been nearly as successful without her! (((Hugs Gina)))
I am almost 9 months post-op. I am wavering between being 2 to 3lbs. from goal...and I'm completely okay with that! I used to feel like it was a race to lose the weight as fast as possible, but I am really happy with where I'm at right now, so if I don't end up losing those last couple of pounds...no biggie, IMO. I went from wearing a tight size 18 pants down to now wearing a size 6 or 8, depending on who makes them. All of my co-morbidities have been resolved (actually were gone by my six month labs...yay!), and I feel great.
I know that not a lot of LWs choose to get the DS, and I know that surgery choice is very individual. My experience with the DS has been absolutely amazing, and I am sooooo thrilled that this is what I chose for myself. It fits perfectly with my lifestyle and my personality, which I think is probably the most important consideration when choosing a WLS type. If you are pre-op and still considering your options, please feel free to PM me to ask me questions about the DS - it is NOT just a surgery for the SMO - Gina and I are proof of that! :)
My life has become really busy in the past six months, which should not be an excuse for not coming around here...but, I just get busy sometimes and forget. I went back to school (doing online classes) full time, as well as continuing to work 50 hours a week and raise my son. I'm still working on my time-management skills to try to fit it all in. The greatest thing about losing all of this weight is that I now have the energy and desire to do all of these things, when before, I was always tired and unmotivated. It has been a wonderful gift.
I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying their journeys!
