I am approved by ins and my date is 12/15!
It seems like it's taken forever to get to this point. I am extremely excited & nervous too. I am not nervous so much about the procedure, but anesthesia & if it will change my relationship with my husband. Any advice about that? or any other advice? I have a great monthly support group. I love this site! What kind of vitamins are good to prevent hair loss & is there anything I can do to my skin to not have such saggy skin...like an oil or lotion that would help?
Thanks for your help!
Jackie

Hi Jackie. I'm not sure how much help these are to prevent hair loss but they may help. The hair loss is due to the trauma of surgery and the follow on ketosis but you do want to be taking good vitamins and getting plenty of protein to help regrow really nice hair after the hair loss phase is over. Anyway, what the vets advised me to help with hair loss was start pre-op taking zinc, selenium, protein and start getting extra hydrated pre-op and definitely stay hydrated post-op. Some will say to add biotin now as well.

Hi Jackie,
Are you in Georgia??? I've heard lots of good things about your surgeon.
My relationship with hubby hasn't changed since surgery, but we've been married 32 years so he has pretty much seen me up and down.
I put lotion all over every day - has it helped - probably not. My legs look pretty bad but they have been large all my life until now.
Congratulations on getting your date and approved. Keep us posted on your progress.

Hi Jackie,
Word of advice from me -- don't worry about the hair loss or the skin. Not now. There really isn't much you can do for either.
Make sure you get the right vitamins. I would recommend to make it easy that you order them through Bariatric Advantage or Celebrate. Both are specifically for wls patients. They will also send you free samples.
This is such an exciting time for you! A friend of mine had her surgery around the holidays and it was a very good time to relax and let the family do the work!
Can't wait to hear about your progress!

Hi Jackie,
Congrats and welcome! It's time to put up an avatar - it doesn't have to be a picture of you if you want to be private, but it's a fun way to show your personality to the group. :)
If it makes you feel any better, through these first 70-ish lbs, I haven't had ANY loose skin problems yet. I might later, but I hope not! Do I have a secret? Yes - genes, which we have no control over, of course. (I also carry a pretty debilitating eye disease, lots of cancer, etc. You take the good with the bad, right?) I also exfoliate regularly, and moisturize daily with lotions that don't have any alcohol in them. Those do help. Ava says that it helps to get some sun, too.
Your concern about how your relationship will change with your husband is a good one. Have you worked with your therapist to talk about that? Relationships do change when we change - that's true for anyone, WLS or not. It's great to be proactive about thinking that through. My hope for you is that the change with your hubby will be a good one!
Good luck, and thanks for letting us share in this journey with you!

Welcome aboard!
My relationship is actually better with my husband now than it has been in the past couple of years because I think I feel alot better about myself.
It is great to have as much support as you can get. Love this board!
Not much can be done about the hairloss, just keep up on your protein and your vitamins, biotin will help with regrowth.
Make sure you have your vits ordered preop and lots of samples of protein postop, because nothing tastes the same after surgery.
As for the skin, no magic potions!
Just keep learning and research about the surgery will want or will be getting. I thought the weightloss surgery book for dummies was a good read, also Barbara Thompson wrote a great book and she has a website too.
Good luck!
