So hungry on 2 week preop

I started my preop diet yesterday and felt pretty good. Then today I have been STARVING, which I swore I would never do again. I read all the posts about how hungry everyone was today. Was it the change in weather or in the air?

I had my dinner at 4:00PM and now at 9:00, I'm hungry again.

I am allowed two 30 gram protein shakes and one meal of 3 oz. protein and one vegetable. Two small servings of fruit (1/2 apple) as snacks.

I know it is only two weeks, but I am scared about being so hungry and weak. I took an hour walk and went to a very mild body awareness class. Then all I did was read and watch DVD's, instead of the laundry and cleaning I want to do before surgery. I felt lousy all day.

My research says I will lose the hunger for a while after surgery. I surely hope so, because getting this hungry is what makes me binge. Having second thoughts if I can make it with so little food.

Thanks for letting me vent.

It is so hard to make it through those pre-op diets!  I think because you mentally know you CAN eat way more than what you are you want to.   However, after you have your surgery you will barely beable to take in the fluids they want you to drink for the first month.

You can do this and you will be fine after surgery too!  Just wait you will see and be amazed!  Take the time to enjoy every bite of "real" food you get right now, take that 30 minutes to eat your meal, chew your food until it is almost non existant, ENJOY it!  And drink drink drink!

Split your protien shake allowance into 3 or 4 rather than 2!  Save one of those protein shakes for just before bed, if you don't eat or drink a meal before bed your metabolism will stop over night and you will wake famished and want to eat everything in sight!  This is a good rule post op as well I always had a protein shake during my weightloss phase!   I know we have all trained ourselves not to eat after a certain time but that is the worst thing you can do for your body when you are trying to boost your metabolism.

Yes, honey, I would be starving, too!

You'll lose a lot of weight this way, but I have to say that it seems unfair.  You haven't had the surgery yet!  Good news is that lots and lots of other people have had enormous success with it, and you will, too.

Soon you'll be grouchy pouchy and yearning for the days you could be hungry.  And then, soon after that, you'll be all healed up and losing the excess weight -- for life!

You can make it.  The 3rd day was the worst for me, then I was ok, just bored.  Get out of the house.  Walk at the mall.  Do something to take your mind off eating, not jus****ching TV especially if that was an eating time for you.  Increase your water or crystal light.  A lot of time when you think you are hungry, it is thirst.
And things are totally different after surgery.  I am 2 months out and I have yet to feel hungry.  I get empty sometimes and know it is time to eat but not hungry.  In the beginning, I really did have to eat on schedule and if I missed a time due to weird schedule stuff, I never missed it.  I had to work to get all my mini meals in.  Not saying at some point you would not be able to binge again (no knowledge) but it won't be anytime soon for sure.  You would get very sick.  I certainly looked at that 1/4c measure and thought that would never happen but it is still plenty of food for me (at this point I get 1/4c of protein, 1/4c of fruit or veggie and can't always fini****).  And I have plenty of energy.  It takes a while to get over the drugs from surgery and the procedure itself but I can do things now that I couldn't do before surgery.

Vent away!   Well, my surgeon didn't have me do any pre-op diet but I can say that if he did I would have totally failed that test-a-roo! lol

Hang in there......this too shall pass.

Not long from now you will have "grouchy pouchy" and she can be a spit fire! Well, mine....she's another story.  She's a flat out B%^*H and we fight all the time.  I get so mad and throw food at her and......she just throws it right back at me! HAHAHAH (I so laughed out loud on that one)!

Best of luck! 2 weeks and your new journey starts!

Hang in there Wendy.  It sux to be you today but in two weeks you're going to be on a whole new path and so delighted to know that you will never have to lose those same pounds again.  I didn't have that sort of pre-op diet.  Kaiser gave us a 1200 calorie a day plan with specifics for the three meals, no snacks.  Once I got to pre-surgery goal they sceduled surgery and I just had to maintain my loss.  Every plan is different.  I wish I had lost more moving up towards surgery and I know you'll be happy what what you shed this week.

Are you going to the Sonoma support group on Saturday morning?  I'm thinking about driving up to Santa Rosa because my surgeon, Dr. Baggs is the guest speaker.  I hear they have a great clothing exchange and supplement exchange.  Have you been?  I wish there was someone down in my area that wanted to go.

Keep yourself busy today and don't worry about that laundry, as it will probably do itself.  Your only job is sticking to your doctors plan and amusing yourself.  What movies have you been watching?  Post more on OH because that takes a lot of time and you can't eat and type.  :)

Lee, I almost posted on LW  about the Sonoma-Lake County support group. I would like you to come, if you can. I have gone 3 or 4 times. A nice group, though we are all nice, aren't we? The people who go to support meetings seem to show a commitment to making the best of our surgery.

If I can help get you there, let me know. Easy to find, since it is off 101, north end of Santa Rosa in the Wells-Fargo Center (though to me it will always be Luther Burbank).

I haven't used the exchange, but the clothes look great, can't wait to need new stuff. I am sick of my clothes, but don't want to buy till I need smaller sizes.

Yesterday I watched season one of Doc Martin, a British PBS show about an eccentric doctor in a gorgeous village in Cornwall. I have several DVD's of TV seasons lined up, Boston Legal, Friends, Sex in the City, Northern Exposure, all mindless for my recovery time. Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for reminding me I can post anytime. You all seem so knowledgeable, I am in awe.
