Ok so I posted on the Exercise/Fitness Forum and struck out.  I am searching for any women who have trained for competitve body building/physique/fitness competitions s/p WLS.  I am trying to figure out the best way to go about setting up a training/diet plan and have NO CLUE where to start!  Someone mentioned a woman who used to frequent the Exercise/Fitness Forum who was competing post op.....anyone know who she is??  Any help would be greatly appreciated!  If you have run across anyone in other forums please hook a girl up!

Thanks,
Heather

Sorry, Heather - I'm no help at all except to say that I think it's really cool that you're doing this!

Please keep us posted, and send us pics of all that definition so we can be jealous! (er...I mean...inspired!)

LOL, you know I will!  I'm having the worst time finding anyone who knows anything.....quite frustrating as I'm sure I am not the ONLY WLS patient who wanted to do this....I don't necessarily want to compete....but I do want that body!.....

Hey girlie..

go to www.bodybuilding.com

They have a myriad of different forums, and while its NOT WLS specific, its definitely more help than no help!!

Hey thanks!  I have checked that website out several times and am not to impressed with it.  I think it's more the attitude of many of the members towards WLS than anything.  I was looking at your pictures and you look like you bulked up A LOT since April!  You look fantastic!  Is that you in your Avi???  I'd like to take a peak at YOUR food logs and excercise regime!!!!  Seeing those pics of you makes me know that adding muscle is not an impossibility!  I sent you a friend request...PLEASE accept me!!!

Thank you!  Yes that is me!

I have the full body workout on my blog - I got it from bodybuilding.com.

You know its like a lot of places (that are not the lightweight board), it has some incredible information, a big ol scoop of ignorance about some things, and can get blustery fighting over things that never really mattered anyway.

No, its not an impossibility.  I follow a ketogenic diet because that is how my body seems to prefer processing foodies, 60% fats, 30% protein, and 5% carbs.  Its a moderate protein higher fat sort of gig, and its great for my body for keeping lean and building up.  Not so efficient if you are not doing some kind of heavy lifting, but you can definitely build muscle and lean out.

Sadly sort of, my burlygurly arms hardly fit in a lot of the pretty Coldwater Creek shirts my husband was so insistant we buy me at "goal."  I am like the incredible hulk. ha!

I use a program called dietpower to track my food, but I tell it the macros I want to be at and it helps me stay on track, I log my food and exercise and it tells me what I need, calorically, to stay/gain/lose.  I luff it!

I accepted you!

How did you figure out what type of diet you should be on?  I really want to get the diet down more than anything.  I don't really have the money to pay someone to tell me what, when, and how to eat.....as much as I'd prefer to do it that way.....lol

OMG....can you come to Minnesota and work out with me?  LOL  I've been trying to find your full body workout on your blog but am having trouble.

I have a friend who did competitive bodybuilding for many years who is reaching out to his Facebook friends for me to see if anyone is willing to help me out.  We'll see if that works out.

Diet - during my losing phase, I was 20 g carb max, because those were the instructions given by Dr. A. I saw that folks who followed his recommendations got where they wanted to be - so I followed and did fine.  When I called goal and was switching over to "maintenance" I did try to be standard nutritional split, but the increased carb situation in my body (and understand, I was eating complex - as close to the way it came out of the ground carbs) created a bingey situation in me.  I was hungry all the time, thinking about food all the time, and feeling insanely bingey, and that was not going to work for me.  I also got carb foggy, felt listless and sluggy, was more forgetful, had more issues with word finding and staying on task, which was not the case when I had been carb restrictive previously.  That was definitely the beauty of the immediate presurg/postsurg diet - it essentially detoxed me, and I got to see what it was like for my body to run "clean" and then adding things back, it became apparent how I did, or did not function well.

I had eaten ketogenically previously when I was lifting (there is a ketogenic forum on bb.com - which is full of groovy information) but like EVERYTHING before surgery - I was just so hungry all the time and never got "full" - there seemed to never be enough.  Post surgery, some is enough and that is great!  I also eat between 1600 and 2400 calories per day, depending on activities, and if I have had a week off from activities (vacation, sick, the lazies) and use dietpower.com to help me know where my calories ought to be on any given day (I do understand not everyone cares to track and I absolutely understand and support any way you can get it done!  This happens to be my safeguard for accountability and mindfulness). I eat the same volume - usuallly never more than 4 ounces at a time but I tweak my calories by adding good fats, or by substituting higher caloric density meats, or lower depending on my needs, so I have learned how to manipulate the calories that way, but not change my volumes, so my tum still understands that "this" equal satisfied and does not try and give me the big sad velvet eye paintings and tell me that its not *enough* and *we usually have more..*

Yes.  My tum and my Trixybich (you know..the voice in your head that once helped you cope, but now does not realize that how you DID is not how you are going to DO anymore?) can try and be ragamuffiny with their little tin cup, pencil selling, with their velvet big eyed painting selves to get their way.  They used to win a lot.  Now? Not so much.

Hells to the yes I will come work out with you!

Gimme 10 minutes!  :}

OH! And Mandyplus2 on the VSG board (and she goes to the exercise board too) has a trainer off bb.com, who has had wls folks before and she loves him, and I am not sure if he is a pay for guy, or a just helpful guy?

I hope the situation with your friend works out! My girlfriend who was a competitor, moved, got married and for the life of me, I cannot find her.  Boo.
