Add a backscratcher. lol Crazy, huh?  It will help you reach for stuff without pulling on your tummy.

The only other advice, long term, is don't over do it on Advil or other NSAIDS. I know they say DSrs and VSGrs can take them but they're a little iffy for everyone. We have a long term DSr that lost her pyloric valve due to too much NSAIDS over time.

Don't over pack. lol

Don't forget to take before/after pictures and your measurements!   I kept my surgery outfit so I could take crazy pictures after losing.   This is a CRAZY ride and you need CRAZY pictures afterwards.

I didn't take much to the hospital.  I would not have wanted to change into a robe or gown.  For the 24 hours, the hospital gown was ok.  I think I did take slippers because they get you up every 4 hours to walk.

I was told not to bring an ipod or a phone because I was there along, except for visitors.  They told me that if they come clean up after you and take a tray away, if your stuff is on the tray it can easily get dumped with no retrieval because of toxic materials.  I really didn't want to talk on the phone anyways.

I wore a sweatshirt and drawstring pants to the hospital. I had a jacket over it so didn't need a bra or panties.  The less you need to wear, the better.

If you're going home in a car, have the person taking you home bring a very soft pillow that you can hold against your chest.  If you need to cough or hit a bump, you'll be so grateful to have it to cushion everything.

Advil needs to be liquid.  I got Tylenol children's liquid but never had to open it.  I had the lortab liquid that I was sent home with and ditched it after a few days.  Never opened the Tylenol.

Don't buy too much protein as your taste buds are likely to change if you're like the rest of us.  It's hard to imagine something being too sweet but I can't tolerate Crystal Light these days because even in 20 oz of water it's way too sweet.

How exciting that you're so close to surgery!!  :)

I'm almost 2 weeks' out. I brought my pillow from home, which was a godsend. I never sleep as good without it, so it helped me to get my zzz's. I brought jammy bottoms only and wore the hospital gown on top. I personally think a robe is cumbersome and unnecessary, but that might just be "me". Forgot to pick up a pair of slippers until the week-end before, and decided not to go shopping for them. I wore hospital issue socks with non skid bottoms (very ugly and didn't care one bit), I had undies for those days, and wore my outfit to/from hospital. Be sure they have some stretch in them,as your tummy is bloated from its trauma. I changed into jammies immediately upon walking into the house, and still do that even now when I get home from being out. Your most basic of toiletries, and I loved having my cell (with it's charger). Although I didn't use it a lot, it was my connection to the outside world. I didn't want visitors other than family, as I had a "job" to do walking, and didn't want to worry about entertainment. Possibly one magazine, but you won't do much reading... Hope this helps.

I took a thin pair of PJ's and a matching thin robe and as soon as I was out of the anethesia, I wanted to put them on! It was my way of telling myself that I am normal, just spending some time in the hospital. I could not wait to take my walks outside, beause they made me feel normal, not sick, or someone who just had surgery! I know I am not explaining it right, but for me, it was a must! Oh, and dont forget a heating pad..it was wonderful when I was laying in bed!!
