You guys (RNYrs and DSrs) need to read this thread even if you've had run-ins with some of the posters. lol   http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/ds/4267848/quotCitrate-quo t-he-says-quotNot-enough-citrate-quot/  I say RNYrs and DSrs because I haven't heard that banders and VSGrs have trouble with kidney stones. Maybe I'm wrong about that. MacMadame, did you have a kidney stone?

Anyway, I'm on the lookout for foods high in citrate. Did you know that the calcium citrate and the magnesium citrate we take has no citrate in it, that's a processing term and not a contents term?

Y'all have a wonderful Friday! It's almost the weekend

I'll go check that out too. Even though I'm a sleever, I have a history of urinary, bladder, and kidney infections and kidney stones. However, since I quit drinking soda pre-op and started drinking the the amount of water it would take to fill a baby pool daily, I haven't had a single infection.

Very eye opening, so what are our real choices, to eat anything citrusy? I am not allowed to have juice ( I think) not sure how it would react with my grouchie pouchie..... If there is a supplement that works will you please share it with us.

I'll update as soon as I learn more. I'm thinking fresh squeezed lemon juice in our water is a good option. Waiting for Vitalady to chime in if there's an OTC pill.

I don't think this is something that has ever been checked on my labs.  Do they only check this if you are having a problem?  I'll have to look at them when I get home.
Thanks for the info.

I think it's only checked via the 24 hour urine test.

Google "sour salt" and "citric acid". There is a spice you can buy in bulk but I also looked at my lemon pepper spice and it contains citric acid. I use it as a rub every time I make steaks. So, I was thinking I could buy the sour salt and maybe put a little in capsules and take it as a supplement too. Still thinking abut this one though. Lemonade sounds much more appealing.

Ok, I am going to chime in on this only because inadvertently I may be doing something right here...

I don't suffer from kidney issues but certainly do not want to start down that road, sounds painful and I'm allergic to pain...lol

As you may know from my other posts, I struggled with constipation and as a result had to have the rectocele repair. With that said, I have been on a mission to NEVER have constipation again and have quickly modified my daily routine. So, bare with me on the long post because maybe my tips can help others with constipation/regularity issues and you'll see my correlation to the kidney stone issue.

For the constipation issue, I have upped my fiber intake tremendously to 25g minimum. I eat daily Fiber One bran cereal 1/2 cup is 14g of fiber and only 60 calories and does not trigger the carb monster (at least for me). I cru**** up and add to my foods such as cottage cheese, yogurt, or just simply munch on dry cereal throughout the day. I can't eat it all at once or else I get bubble gut and that's bad. I then eat an apple a day, really...every day I do. I eat it as part of snacks, food, etc but an apple a day period. Then, along with the fiber cereal and apple, I add fiber chewables (3 day) with my vitamins.

Finally, to end the day...and this is without exception...even while I was in Vegas in the hotel...I squeeze the juice of 1 whole lemon and add that to a large cup of ho****er and sweeten with splenda. It is a nice warm lemonade. Lemon juice is a natural remedy to constipation (google it...cool stuff) and it is a natural systemic cleanser. Does it work??? UM....YES!!!

For whatever reason, it soothes and relaxes me and it gets things moving. If I remember in the mornings, I'll do the same thing but 1/2 lemon only. Nice way to kick start the gut from fasting during the night.

To keep things moving along I will take 1 colace tablet daily...maybe every other day. But this routine works and works well. I do not have any more issues and with all the vitamins we take that bind, and the coffee/caffeine we drink, and lack of water intake, this helps out a lot.

So the tie in...the citric acid in the lemons is a natural remedy and should be very helpful in the kidney stones too. Just google benefits of lemon water and you will see so much cool stuff.

I've gotten to the point too where I really like the tartness of the lemons and will eat it like an orange at times. I know I know...I'm weird but I will never get scurvy....lol My DH calls it my scurvy tea...and he makes it real pulpy so its yummy. Ha...ok, I am weird...you love me....

Okee...I'm done...take the 411 as you will. Hope you all are having a great day!!
