My work does not let me get on as much as I would like. I get home from work about 8:30pm each night. - which is my poor excuse for not coming on much.
Check out the Lapband and Realize forums. That is where I would go read to get a lot of information on the band. I think almost everyone agrees that either band is a good way to limit the amount of food you eat. I used to do 5 helpings for Thanksgiving. Realize band limits the amount of food I can shovel down at a time and forces me to chew my food. I now will stop eating because I am tired of chewing over the feeling of being full.
I got it thinking if I didn't like it, it would be reversible. That is not a good reason for the band. It is a life style change for all of us and our pouch or band is just a tool to help get and keep the weight off, but it is a permanent change that needs to take place.
One thing about the bands, as long as it is there, you run the risk of band slippage. That is one risk that just does not go away. Best way to avoid that is to chew chew chew and then chew some more. My health coach would say that I needed to chew it to applesauce consistancy. I had 6 months of practicing that prior to the surgery, which help with the number of times, I would forget and not chew enough or over eat. Practicing some of the habit before really helped me.
If your insurance allows it, get one of the free health coaches. I talked on the phone with one every other week for a while and it was a great help mentally preparing me. I learned more from her than any doctor or nutritionist's visit. But most bansters, do not have the right sweet spot right after surgery. Until you find that sweet spot, it is more of a mental battle to eat less.
Good luck on your journey. and yes, I'd do it all over again and would still have the band even though I have not lost as much as my counterparts. Part my fault. Change of jobs and with the stress, I went more into a maintainence mode instead of continuing to loose the weight. BUT, still I have lost over 55 pounds and have some what gotten my life back and have not felt this good about me, in a long time.

There are quite a few of us on here that USED to have bands. I had mine removed, it never worked properly and caused pain, frustration and terrible eating habits. I am going for a sleeve or ds depending on insurance. I would suggest the sleeve over the band for sure. Statistically you have a much better chance of losing. DS has best weight loss results but a more rigorous vitamin/supplement routine and higher chance of complications. Many would say it's well worth it though. Good luck making your decision!
Lapband 4/08 removed 3/10.....Sleeve scheduled for 12/28/2010!!!!!!
