Kimberly...I was so scared to eat anything that early out. In the 11 months since surgery I've had foamies 4 times (ate too fast/didn't chew well-very painful) and dumped only a couple of times. I started eating a bit more about a month ago and a variety including carbs and the weight started dropping again. I eat and love bananas. lol. But cheetos at 3 weeks...haha...ewww. And all I remember is the person doing it said they would get mushy so it was okay. And I do go out to the local pancake house and order bacon and eggs with pancakes....I LOVE iHop! But only eat half...or a bacon and cheese omellette. I think portion is the key. We didn't put weight on eating a few bites of pancakes!

Hi Melissa!! Yes, I too think portion is the key for sure. I have a breakfast date in the morning at IHOP and I can't wait! I always get a Country Omelette which has ham, cheese and hashbrowns in it with a side of cream gravy and a side of 2 pancakes. I eat maybe 1/4 of the omelette and about 2-3 bites of the pancakes....it's heavenly and I don't feel deprived just...normal. It's great!
I eat those things too, but I plan them into my menu and stick to the portions that I planned. I hit goal in less than 5 months and kept right on going. But I worked out really hard 6 days a week while losing and 4-5 days now. I eat very healthy, but if I want a snack, I have it. I think we were all talking about the people who are on post-op liquids, or a few days into solids with 150 pounds to lose asking about when they can eat fried carbs.
I agree, when we are a healthy, normal weight, we need to treat ourselves occasionally to not feel deprived. My dietitian actually urges me to eat treats sometimes. I figure if I can't eat a cookie occasionally at 100 pounds, what's the point?

There was a post last week on a different message board from someone who had VSG a couple of months ago in Mexico. While she was there, supposedly she got involved in some business venture, stayed for those couple of months, and got most of her calories from margaritas. Her question was, would it be okay for her to start taking Adipex now to start losing weight?
This is POST-vsg. The general concensus was "WTF??" That's the kind of thing that makes you wanna slap someone.

I dunno. I just never assume that my gifts and my way of thinking are going to be someone else's. I don't have the food addictions that many WLS patients have had, and thus, I'm not able to understand their cravings.
Frankly, it's pretty easy for me to stick to the plan - to a T! It's easy because I'm super competitive and a ridiculous overachiever. I'm competing against my old habits now, and right now I'm winning. I don't assume that this will always be the case, and I pray that I'll be able to stay healthy in the long run, God willing!

I see how people eat things that I wonder...."What are you doing" so I understand the frustration.
I was just moved to Stage 3 foods and have been very selective about what I will try. This came after eating a bite of poached fish, that got stuck... so that was it for me.
Eating a saltine cracer is like heaven for me.
I would no more eat a pancake or waffle, than a man in the moon!.
Well time for cottage cheese..... , night all

Yeah, I don't really get the trying stuff like that right out of surgery (especially the Big Mac!). I was just too scared and was lucky that I didn't crave things like that. I feel so sorry for people who even right out of surgery have no sense of control. My guess is that they truly have a mental illness (or addition) problem.
I still get to snacking on the tortilla chips and have had probably 6 pieces of Halloween candy over the last couple of weeks. Was I hungry or craving them? Nope. Am I a food addict? Nope. Did I just randomly pick them up because they were in my face? Yep. The key for me is keeping away from those types of foods. When I do have them, it usually doesn't knock me over my 1200-ish number of calories each day.
