So today I learned the importance of adequate liquids and protein

So, yesterday I know I didn't get in enough protein and liquids.  This morning I slept in until 9am, got up, had a greek yogurt and about 4 oz of grape juice (to take my valtrex and nexium).  Hubby and I got in the car to go vote.  The voting place for us is maybe a mile up the road.  As we go, I said, "Man, it's hot in here"  but was not worried b/c my body temp has been out of whack since surgery.  It was crisp outside and I had on some thin jogging pants and a sweatshirt (with no t-shirt) on underneath.  We get into the voting place (which is a middle school) and we are maybe 50 people back.  Our neighbor is in front of us, so we all start talking.  It's warm in there so I have taken a piece of paper and folded it in half to fan with.  We are in line maybe 30 minutes before we get into the gym where the actual voting takes place.  We get to the door jam of the gym and I am SWEATING!  All of a sudden, I start seeing black spots, which is my bodys' way of telling me I am about to faint ( I know this b/c everytime I give blood, I faint, no matter what).  My poor neighbor is in mid sentence when I turn to my husband and say, "I NEED TO SIT DOWN" and now the blackspots are getting bigger and he (IMHO) doesn't seem to understand my urgency, so I said, "I NEED TO SIT DOWN NOW, RIGHT NOW!!!" And some other man found a seat, but it was too late, I, in my husbands words, "you just went limp..if I hadn't been holding on to you, you would have fell flat out!!"..So he sat me down against a wall, got me some nasty school fountain water, and then when I finally got outside and got some fresh cool air, I was better.  The poor poll workers kept asking me, "do you need us to call 911?" which I declined.  Finally in about 30 minutes I was able to go back in, went straight to the front of the line, voted, and came home.  And since then I have gotten in 62 grams of protein and 64 oz of water!
The moral of this story is, if you think your ok with not getting in enough liquid/protein - your not!  Get to it...and thank god that I am now on full liquids and found a protein drink with 42grams of protein!!!
This newly sleeved member has learned her lesson!

Wow Robin! I'm glad you're ok and your hubby caught you.

That sounds a lot like my Reactive Hypoglycemia episode I had. But dehydration can also contribute to that.

Take care of yourself!

Glad you are ok.  Sometimes we have to be hit in the head to get the message.  Just a thought though, you mentioned grape juice.  I am 2 months out and we still can't have juice.  Are you sure that evern that little amount was ok?  Maybe a switch to grape crystal light?  Or maybe on your plan it is fine.  Drs plans differ so much.

yep..I am sure about the grape juice. It's what the dr. recommended in order to dissolve the shingles med. I am absolutely sick of it though. Reactive hypoglycemia? Not sure, I might have to research that. I got up way early today to try to counter-act any dehydration. I am about to have half of my protein shake. It's a big one with 42grams of protein, so I like to break it up. Yesterday, did in fact, scare the crap out of me. I knew better, but it's really really hard trying to get in all the liquids. I basically have realized that I have to be sipping on something ALL the time. Anyway, I am fostering an 8 week old puppy and it's about time to head outside for some fresh air for him (and me)

Thanks guys!

That was scary!!!  Glad your husband had a hold of you!!!  Glad you are now getting your fluids in, if that was the culprite, but even if it wasn't you need that fluid.
