Poo issues
Just in the last several months have been getting more constipated and it hurts! In the past I have seen that some folks were on laxatives on a regular basis, but I thought you weren't supposed to use them that often. What are folks doing?
Also does anyone out there take glucosamine/chondritin? (sp) My regular doc wants me to start it, but it is ground up shells...does it really go down okay? Anyone else with RYN use it?

I take 2 colace(equate brand) and 1 tbls Miralax(equate brand) every morning and it really helps. Neither of these is considered a laxative so they are safe to use daily.
I get in over 80 ozs of water each day so that is not my problem.
I was also eating the yogurt that helps with digestion, but have changed to Greek Yogurt.
If it gets really bad I use a glycerin suppository.
Good luck.

I talked with my surgeon about this a couple of months after I had surgery and he told me it was ok for me to take it on a regular basis. I only take 1 tbls not the full dose every day. I've read a lot of other post that people are taking this on a daily basis.
You might want to check with your doctor before you take it on a regular basis.

I also take a generic of Colace. That helps me quite a bit. Its a stool softener, not a laxative.

At first after surgery I was a lot more constipated and I started colace once a day and increased it to twice a day. After my gall bladder out a month ago I had some of the opposite problems at first but now am back on colace twice a day. Like Linda said, colace is not a laxative, just makes it so it's not hard and there is no straining! For me I am sure it's the iron, I get my water and exercise in but still have the problems without the colace. I had RNY. Good luck, it's no fun!

Thank you all for the great replys...I will look and see if I can find some generic colace....This is such a pain and just happens occasionally...but it ruins the day when you have it. I actually feel achey and like I have a fever but I have been checked several times in the past (for bladder and female stuff) and it always resolves after I get a poo out. Plus sometimes it feels like I have those marbles in there....Sorry, TMI...
Thank you all again....this board is always great at knowing the answers!!
