Is enough, ever enough?

My goal weight was originally 131.  This was smack in the middle of a healthy weight for my height.  I'm 6 lbs away from achieving that goal.  My surgeon's goal was 165 and I accomplished that a long time ago.

My question is for the veterans out there....do you ever accept the goal weight that you hit or do you always feel like you want to lose a few more pounds?

I think that it would be possible for me to dip slightly into the 120's.  I work out daily, track my food intake, I'm faithful to my vitamin and protein regiment  --so I'm thinking that it is possible to hit 129.  Maybe my real question is....am I going too far?  Have I lost my mind?  I realize that sometimes we have no control and the body decides for us--and I think I'm willing to accept that when it happens but for now, I'm still losing and the 120's look awfully appealing.

I'm no veteran, but my goal weight was 115. When I hit 120 relatively easily, I wanted to weigh 100. I fought and clawed and worked my ass off, and hit that today. Now I'm thinking "maybe one more pound." I think it would be so cool to be a double digit weight, plus, it's still in the healthy BMI range for me. There is a little bit of letdown when you get to goal. The scale has given me excitement (and some sadness). Plus, I know people usually rebound and I would rather rebound from a lower weight than a higher one.

Thanks! We just gotta get you there Lee! You are the toughest, most stubborn woman I know! No matter what you keep fighting and that's how I know you will get there, even if your body wants to be a pain and do it slowly!

Shammy, being far from goal, I have no advice, but I did want to come and say.... YOU ROCK!  Look at you getting to goal and wondering if you want to go lower.  You've done such a fabulous job with your recovery.  Congratulations!!

I think your body will adjust to where it wants to be.
I think if you can get to the 120's without too much effort, go for it. Will your bmi remain in the healthy range? Then why not!
It will also give you a little room for the bounce back I have heard about. I am only 5'1" and my surgeon told me a good weight would be 130-140, but I think I am looking at 115-120, if possible!
Congrats on your success so far, and here's to the future!
Way to go Shammy!!!!

Oh boy, this is an interesting subject.  Hubby & I just had this discussion a few days ago.  He wanted me "stop loosing" about 10 lbs ago.  He feels that I will never be happy with the numbers on the scale and that I will always want "just a few more lbs"  Ive changed my "goal" along the way.  I started off at 278.  My first goal was anything under 200 lbs.  I made that goal, made a new goal of 175.  I hit that goal and made my final goal 150.  Im only a few lbs from that.  My weight loss is going super slowwwwwww now.  Some days I wonder if I'll ever see the 150 goal. But I honestly think that I'll be happy with that number.  We'll see.  Cindy

I'm not a veteran but I can totally relate with this question. The closer I get to my goal weight, the more I'm thinking I want a little more bounce back room. Does that make sense? When I look in the mirror I feel like I can see a least 20 more pounds that need to go. My husband thinks I'm crazy. In my opinion I don't think you're going too far as long as you are still within your normal BMI weight range.

I settled on a goal size, since the numbers really mean very little in relation to actual body mass.  My original goal was 135, only because it was smack in the middle of a "normal" BMI.

I just got hydrostatically weighed - I have 121 pounds of muscle, bone, visceral organs!  Honestly, I would not be able to GET to, much less MAINTAIN that original out of my bottom goal, so.. I think it depends on your goal. Is it a weight?  A size?  A health status?  An athletic sort of goal?  I think if its just a weight, it will definitely be tempting to drop down as far as a person can, you know.. just to see!

Good luck, whatever your choice!

I'm someone that always wants to lose a bit more!!!  My original goal was 130.  Dr wanted me to stop at around 140-145.  Not going to happen.  I got down to 127 and thought...I'd like to drop a few more.  I never did.  I bounced back to 130-135.  I've stopped getting on the scale because I always want to lose more!!  I don't like my weight in numbers at all!!!!  But I'm a size 4, which I'm very happy with.  Would I like to get to a 2 or Zero...sure, but I'm fine with a 4!!  My body stabilized where "It" wanted to be.  I've got terrible Body Dysmophia (sp)!!!!  I will look in the mirror and I see some one that is like a size 14 weighing over 200 lbs!!!!  I have issues I know, but I don't know how to solve them.

Hopefully I've helped you!!!  But I think wanted to get a bit lower is natural.  Think of in in $ terms, can we ever make enough....nope we always want to make just a bit more money in our paychecks!!

There are never any problems, only solutions.  quoted by a dear and special friend!!!

My stats:
Starting weight 234 lbs    Height 5 ft 6 in
Goal in 7 months (127 lbs)
Currently: 120-123 lbs
Tops Small   Bottoms size 2!!!!
