Hello, 150s! First Holiday Challenge Goal Met!

Hi Everyone!

Well, that ballet class did it - I am now officially in the 150s, thus meeting the first of my Holiday Challenge goals!  I wanted to do whatever it takes (within the rules, in a healthy way) to make sure that I was into the 150s by Halloween. 

Done!

Now for the next goal - to get to the 140s by the end of November.  

Thank you for all of your encouragement along the way - these challenges and the successes I've read of here have fueled me on for my own success.  I'm so grateful for it!

I'll have some new pics on my profile, hopefully by the end of the day.

That is the best news!!  How long did it take you to get from 169 to the 150's?  Any tips you'd like to share with those of us in the losing phase?

You're doing such a great job Rosa and staying so focused.  I really appreciate your posts!

Thanks, Ladies!  You two have been such major encouragement to me, honestly.  Seeing people's successes and challenges and learning from them has been a huge help to me.  Even though my life is crazy, I've committed to making the time to read the LWs posts throughout the day - this helps me continue to focus on my health.  

Lee:  I hit 168 on October 19th (never saw 169).  It then took me 11 days to get down to 159.  

I tell you, the most helpful thing to me has been to see other people's successes and to try to follow their storylines.  So, for example, looking at someone like Jody who lost roughly 10 lbs a month - I then hold that in my mind.  And when I weigh myself (which I only do on days when I exercise) I look to see how close I am to losing 2.5 lbs each week.  If I seem not to be there, then I add in another jog or dance class.  

The lesson I've learned from folks like Jody and Shannon (and I know there are many more successes - I just know more of their stories from the Fitness Challenge threads) is to WORK THE TOOL.  So, while my tool is really cooperating, I'm trying to pull in the most dramatic numbers I can so that I can, all the while building healthy lifestyle adaptations such as a passion for movement to carry into the lifetime of maintenance that lies ahead.  

I think I've had my most dramatic drops after really intense dance classes (which I tend to do on Thursdays or Fridays).  It's not unusual for me to be 3 lbs down after an advanced zumba or ballet class.  Then, the scale will hold (and even go up a couple of lbs over the weekend****il it'll get back to the lowest weight by the following Tuesday (when I start my workouts again) and then creep down by Thursday or Friday.  I usually only see net loss on those days, which is why I don't even weigh in on days I haven't worked out.  Too discouraging!

So what I take from that is that I'm definitely HOLDING weight and losing slowly from the tool's restriction and malabsorption, but I really really LOSE the more dramatic numbers when I do more intense exercise.  

That being said, as a form of strategy I try not to exercise too intensely all of the time just yet.  This is because I don't know that I could maintain that across my lifetime.  Plus, I want somewhere to go from here so that I can steadily increase intensity as the loss slows.  

I don't know if any of that is helpful, nor how much longer this particular set of tactics will work for me.  I think that the key is to work with my changing body and respond to it however it wants to improve.  

Maybe ask me again next month - let's see if my November challenge holds up!  (I hope it does...)

I loved reading this post.  You've put so much thought and concentration into this journey.

I wish I could say that hard exercise worked for me.  Last summer when I was exercising 3 hours a day, I was averaging 3 pounds a month.

I have to be so careful to not compare myself to anyone else, particularly you youngsters.  :)

I'm so happy for you and Toni is right, it seems like just yesterday that you posted "hello 160's".

wahooooo now here u r in the 150's good going gurlie
unfortunatly for me , i exercise intensely 7 days a week including 5 k runs and now moving ever so slowwwwwwwww blah blah blah gonna take a long hard look at my eating again and see what i can do to trim here and there keep up the good work

ooh!  Love the new picture, Linda!  And I love that new haircut, too.  It really works for you, and you look even younger now!  

I love this reverse aging process...we're all getting younger!  :)
