Checking in to tell you the news..shingles after surgery
Oh Robin, I am so sorry to hear of your rocky start! I never had shingles, but my hubby did and he was quite miserable that winter (We didn't know what it was until they were full blown around his ribcage). Here's hoping those meds kick in quickly, and be sure to invest in TWO ice packs so you can rotate them from eye to freezer. I also prayed immediately for your quick recovery. Good luck. Please keep us posted.

Oh, Robin, so sorry to hear about your shingles. Will be praying right away for it to just LEAVE you. I second what someone else said, please see an eye doctor ASAP. And, don't be afraid to ask for pain meds. Our eyes have many nerve endings and shingles are bad enough in less sensitive areas.
Take care of YOU.
Blessings,
Kat

I'm so sorry to hear of your illness, and PRAYING you get well and the SHINGLES GO ABOUT THEIR MERRY LITTLE WAY!!! I'm curious, was this something that happened while you were at the hospital? Or, did it happen once you got home to the states?

Rachel,
Just about as soon as the anethisa wore off and I stopped screaming at the nurses that I wanted a pillow and had to go pee NOW,I felt a spot on my eyelid that was itchy, but no big deal. By the next day my eye was a little red and I dreamt that I had a worm in that eye. I assumed that the affects of anethesia was causing the crazy dream but that I had rubbed my eye to redness. The nurse that day even commented on my eye and I said, "oh, maybe I got soap on shampoo in it". But again, it was just a little red at the time. I did notice that it felt like I had cactus *****les on my forhead and a little in my hair on Sunday, the day before we left. By the time we started flying back, my eye started itching more and by the time we got home MOnday night, I thought damn, I got pinkeye down there. So, first thing Tuesday I went to my PCP and he took one look at me and said, hey, you have shingles. My dumba** thought that was something you got on your feet. He sent me immediated to an eye specialist, you put me on valtrex. Today, my eye is swollen shut, so I called the eye specialist and he said it sounds like everything is going according to plan and that it will get worse before it gets better. At this point it appears I wont be going back to work on Monday as planned. I have two pregnant people who work for me and cannot put them at risk. Besides, I look like I should be part of the Munster family! I am handling this a little better today than yesterday. All I can tell you pre-op folks is to not get yourself worked up about the surgery. It's relatively easy! Don't sweat it or your recovery because you never know what's lurking around the corner!!
