Checking in to tell you the news..shingles after surgery
I can't remember if I checked in with you guys since having surgery on the 22nd. Everything went well with the surgery. Other than the pain and discomfort now when I sneeze or cough, it's been good. I tried some unflavored protein (14 g) in my dinner broth last night. Not too bad. Still have the most horrible, stinky, explosive diarhhea, so I am ready for that to go away. I struggle to get all the liquids in, but my pee is very light, so I think I am good with it. But here is the REAL PROBLEM that I have. I have SHINGLES! Shingles, for those of youlike me who thought that was something you got on your FEET, are a resurfacing of the chicken pox virus brought on by some stresser! My stresser was the surgery and the thought of being put under general anethesia. It's on my right side of my face, IN (yes, IN) my right eye, and in the right side of my hair. My right eye is now swollen shut. I have learned to deal with the itching, however it affects your nerve endings and I have not figured out how to deal with that yet. It feels like thousands and thousands of tiny needles poking me in my eye and face and in my hair. Even juust the shower water hurts. and the only tiny bit of relief I get is from the cold compress I have been keeping on there. DH is gonna go tonight and get an icepack to see if that will help. Emotionally, I am a wreck about the shingles. The VSG surgery was a breeze compared to this. The doctor is very concerned with the fact that the shingles is in my eye as this can be very dangerous. So, I know we normally swing things for prayers, but I need some of the best prayers you guys can give me right now!
Thanks guys for listening.

Oh my gosh, you are right. Shingles was so much worse than surgery and didn't go a way quickly. I've had them 2x but luckily my dear body didn't do it to me after surgery. I caught the first episode early and they put me on an antiviral which was very helpful. I hope you were able to take advantage of something like that. The second time they did nothing. I have had a shingles shot since then so maybe it kicked in before surgery. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this. And you are right, nothing much helped.

my dr put me on altrex 1000mg three times a day, but no pain meds. I can handle the burning anditching, what I can Not handle is the thousands of needle *****s that I feel IN my eye, on my forehead and IN my scalp. I am keeping my eye closed for the most part because it seems to hurt less that way. Cold compresses help too. I can handle the surgery pain, but NOT this...

So sorry about the shingles. I am praying for you as I type. I had shot a couple of years ago, but DH did not get--medicare would not pay--well he is getting NOW. After reading your situation, I will follow through on his shot.
Pls keep us posted. I have known several people who had them and I have been told how bad they can be.
Prays going up.

I'm so sorry Robin! I hope you get relief soon. Several years ago I had a case of shingles around my waist. I caught them early and started acyclovir to get rid of them. I will say prayers or swing lizards or whatever makes you feel better. Here's hoping that you wake up tomorrow morning in much less pain.
