Still struggling- Advice from anyone who was still having trouble at 6 weeks out?
I'm sorry you're in a world of hurt. I hope it gets better soon.
I use unsweetened soymilk in my protein shakes so that I won't have to deal with the lactose. I also use protein powder that has enzymes that process the lactase in the whey protein. Doing this doesn't cause bloat.
if you are close to a GNC, go buy some protein powder and ready to drink shakes. You can return open canisters of powder if you don't like them or don't tolerate them. I like the Hydro Whey Chocolate which is 30 grams per scoop. As far as ready to drink shakes, I like the Oh Yeah chocolate and post op liked the Muscle Milk Light Chocolate. Both are lactose free. If protein powders are too sweet and you're using chocolate, try adding a spoon of dark cocoa powder to it to tame the sweet.
Unjury has a chicken soup that's salty instead of sweet and can be very soothing.
If you like pudding and are close to Vitamin Shoppe, I love their Bodytech Dutch Chocolate protein pudding. 25 grams of protein and mixing with 4 oz soymilk adds more protein to it. It gets thick in the fridge in 5 minutes.
Just keep sipping. A no sugar added popcicle is 2 oz of fluids so eating several a day adds up.
Send hugs your way.

I've had similar struggles, but at 8 weeks, I seem to be turning the corner. Have your pcp check your iron. Mine was found to be low and I have been started on 4 weeks of iron transfusions. I am only on week 2, so I haven't seen any benefit yet. It is worth checking out. I think that sometimes, people go back to work too soon, but I know that it can't be avoided for many.
Brylinn: I'm with you! I'm new on these boards, but have posted about this over on the VSG board.
I'm almost 3 weeks out, the endorphins and other good chemicals immediately post op have thinned out a bit and I feel weak. I know I'm getting enough fluid in (tho NOT enough protein) however if you add up our daily calories, no wonder we feel weak!
Are you able to tolerate purees? I'm not a big meat eater, but that's going to have to change: 3 oz chicken/beef have well over 25 g of protein. I took roast chicken, cooked broccoli and cream of chicken soup and mixed it up in my Magic Bullet... it wasn't really runny, just soft and dense, if that makes sense. Put some fresh Parmesan on top (in a little ramekin) and popped it in the microwave until the cheese melted. It was delicious ...
Hope this hasn't made you sicker, reading this I mean! Hang in there and yes, get the IVs if you need to. It's like watering a porous plant: you can almost see it perk up before your eyes!
Post again and tell us how you're doing!
