The Fall five Lbs and our instinct towards snuggly hearty seasonal Comfort Foods

Ive always  had a weight gain in the fall .

August and September were usually   my HAPPIEST months  when  I was ( relatively )  skinny from the summers  sweat and exercise  yet covered enough  to have the shape (  as opposed to the telltale Flab  )  showing ....

Then when the cold weather came ....  out jumped the comfort food s  and  there  went my temporary  waistline.

Well this winter  I dont want to wear  baggy cashmere  sacks  thank U very much ...but  I find Im  bone- chillingly COLD   a lo  which makes me want to eat  ....just to warm up lol.

I also really LOVE having a waistline and i want to work ( though i dont know if i will be able to with this clearly botched nose  job   grrr )

So how did U GRRls  figure this dilemma out in the past ?   How did U avoid the winter 10  lbs ?

Thanks

I don't think I've ever been able to avoid those 5 or 10 extras either. My problem is chili and the beans and rice that go with. So, here I go walking in the freezing rain and bracing wind again. As far as feeling cold all the time, get your iron and ferritin checked. If they're not approaching optimal levels, you're gonna be cold.

I always have weight gain through the holidays.  DH and I were just having this conversation last night. I refust to gain this holiday season. I am finally to the point where I am happy when I look in the mirror, I have a super-cute wardrobe and can wear the current styles for the first time in my life, and I feel better than I ever have.

So I will make the healthiest choices possible, work-out extra hard, do whatever it takes to enjoy the holidays through the company of family and friends, and not focus on the food!

Shannon- I believe you have the strength and determination to do whatever you set out to do.  You are a very strong young woman and a role model for us all and I cannot picture you any other way.  You should be proud of yourself.

Wow, thank you so much! I guess this is just one area where my stubborn-ness works out in my favor! I am proud of myself for the positive changes I have made, and I hope I can help others the same way. That's why I am going into nursing and eventually want to specialize to work with WLS patients!

I didn't know that!  I can't tell you how much it would've meant to me if I knew my care team had been through it, too.

So glad to hear that you're doing this!!!

Last Dec I actually lost 3 lbs - after reaching my goal 4 months earlier.

I'm not tempted by sweets so that part doesn't bother me.  But I do understand the comfort foods - the cozy warm smells of baking, the smell of chili in the crockpot, etc.  But yes, pre-WLS I did the "winter weight gain' too.  And was always beating myself up emotionally about it.  My ex-DH loved to do baking - so sometimes I could convince him to make the stuff I didn't like.  Those years i wouldn't gain, but it didn't always work out that way!

I'm glad you brought this up, because I didn't really think too much about the change of seasons and how it affects us and our eating.  This definitely will make me much more cognizant of what I'm putting in my mouth!!

I don't ever remember gaining in the winter.  I always joined WW around Sept. after school started.  I hate when everyone would join in Jan. for their New Years Resolution to lose weight or because they wanted to lose before summer.   Son ususally when they were joining, I was ready to give up....LOL

Maybe this winter will be different.....I hope not!!!
